Currently its electronics cannot support ABM or AA missile tracking/guidance.

It's power/propulsion system was slapped in when the originally designed PPM could not meet spec. The current form produces 10% of the power of the originally designed PPM

This thing is a pig and would have been a topline albatross if it weren't for the headline grabbing F-35 overshadowing it.

What's incredibly scary is that this project promised to deliver capabilities that could have made it a replacement for the AEGIS cruiser. The next gen CG(x) was delayed to concentrate on DDG-1000.

Now the Navy is stuck with AEGIS entering its 30th year of service and still being the only ABM platform in our arsenal. While we refocus on Arleigh Burke FLight III and what our new crusier fleet will look like.

With Russia's renewed naval power projection and China's bullying tactics in the SCS. DDG-1000's expensive failures have closed the Surface warefare technological gap compared to our adversaries.
