I’ve seen some wild shite on I-45. An RV somehow flipping over on its side and perfectly blocking off 4 of the 5 lanes. Driving back from Galveston I was behind a car with no one even remotely around us and the guy in front of me in the middle lane for no reason at all suddenly makes a hard right turn at 70 mph And drives off the road and goes flying into a construction site. There was no exit or anything near so I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one. Seemed like at least 3 times a week it would be shut down early in the morning because of a wreck that killed someone. Even before I hit any actual traffic, anytime I saw a helicopter above I knew I was fricked and would be sitting there for awhile.

How about the guy who drove his Bugatti into Gulf Bay to try and collect on his insurance? That happened off I-45.

I-45 has a lot of traffic and it’s an older roadway that is still in the process of being rebuilt and widened. Markings, lighting, drainage, shoulders, and sight lines are all still not up to modern standards.

I-10 and I-110 in Baton Rouge is dangerous for similar reasons.

Popular Mechanics has obviously never been to Atlanta and driven on 285 at Spaghetti Junction or the Cobb Cloverleaf.

There is absolutely zero in the way of lane markers and reflectors moving north from Houston. I've felt uncomfortable driving 45 on a few early mornings when it was raining, because you have no earthly idea what you're driving into.

Check out Lake Charles to see a loop that actually works.

Yeah if there isn’t road work or an accident.

FIFY

Merging on to 20 going either way in Bossier is a Jesus take the wheel moment. Those merging lanes are about the length of a car if that.

This shite here. It’s a couple highways around there that is crazy dangerous. You have to go into survival mode driving. I’ve never been so scared of driving in my life. shite was traumatizing.

I'm assuming this is all oilfield traffic? If that's the case there shouldn't be much right now.

US 175 is constantly under construction with really strange twists and turns with no real markers or reflectors for guidance on where you’re going, so I can see it making the list

I think a case can be made for I-10 through NOLA, but for different reasons

I looked up another ranking from 2019. I-45 is ranks 3rd most fatal accidents in the dark and 1st for fatal accidents involving drunk drivers.

In this article SR-99 in California is ranked most fatal with 62.3 deaths per 100 miles.

For anyone looking to kill some time you can actually do customized queries for accidents on the NHTSA site.
