Once in the 90's, around Christmas time, I met a homeless girl at the mall. Funny story, I actually met her dad shaving in the public restroom first. He ended up passing out and being put in the hospital. A good friend of mine (former ex) actually bought her dad a sportcoat to help him find a job. After visiting him at the hospital, I invited the homeless girl to be in a Christmas play with a bunch of my friends at the mall. In the end, I guess I never really gave her much except some food, and a kiss (she was hot), but my dad did help her dad get a job.

Was traveling home on leave and stopped at the waffle house for a break and it was about 4 in the morning. A girl about my age gave me a sob story and how she was starving and she wanted something to eat. I told her go to the counter at the waffle house and order some breakfast and I will pay for it. She looked confused and just asked for cash. I said no I will pay for a meal for you. She said oh and left. I don't give money to support drug habits.

I've given one or two $5 here and there over the years. Once I was heading into a Walmart and found a $20 in the parking lot and looked around and no one was there, on the way out a Hispanic chick with 2 kids approached me and asked for money so I gave it to her.

Years ago, I gave a dollar to a bum on Canal street who had a complicated sob story about being hungry and needing money to get back home. I didn't really believe it, but I was young and stupid.
Later that day, I was riding the street car, and saw that bum sitting a few rows back from me. Fare for the street car at the time was one dollar.
Don't give dollars to bums.

One thing I hate is seeing little kids hungry or homeless. Last summer I saw a young Hispanic couple with 2 young children at the entrance to Walmart on ONeal. I went and bought 2 Happy Meals from the McD across the street along with some other cheap items, and brought it to them and gave them $40.

Perhaps. But at least I tried.

Once or twice I've given one a dollar to a bum to get them to frick off.
And they are not "homeless", they are bums. Don't buy in to the socialism speak. A small minority of them are mentally ill and can't keep their shite together. The majority are lazy arse addicts that put themselves where they are of their own actions, knowing goddamn well what they were doing.
frick em.

St Patrick's Day 2001 in Savannah, GA. Four of us in the car gave a bum around $40 bc his sign said:
"I'm not even gonna lie. I need money for beer."
He smiled and thanked us... then dropped his sign and walked off.
ETA - that was the only time I've given money to a degenerate beggar

When I was in HS, I gave a homeless guy a couple of dollars on the riverwalk. It was all the cash I had on me.
A couple of his buddies wandered over with their hands out and when I told them I didn’t have any more cash, they gave me this look…like disdain and contempt.
Never again. The reality is almost all of those people begging for spare change feel like the world owes them something. Give them food if you feel so inclined but never money.

They have been doing this at the Denham Walmart for years
They will catch you inside on an empty aisle & try to get you to read a note in broken English about helping baby
There’s a few jars of food or diapers in their cart when they do it
