More than likely going to have to say goodbye to our cat sometime next week.

She's almost 19 1/2. Calico

She started going downhill about 6 months ago but it's really accelerated the last week or so. She can't really get herself up anymore without our help. Once she's up she walks okay but it's got worse the last few days. She's still eating and drinking but we said when she started to go downhill that we would let her tell us when it's time and it's about here. Pretty much she's just sleeping and laying on my daughter's bath robe either in her room or our bathroom

She also has a mass on her right shoulder for the last 6 months and we never had it checked b/c we figured it was probably either cancerous or arthritis.

Wife is a mess RN. This will actually be the first pet I've had to put down so I don't know how I'll handle it. Wife has put a couple of cats down over the years.

So sorry man. I can only imagine the mind of a cat, originally, "it outweighs me by 100 kilos, but I'm hunting him," to now, "why the frick can't I launch 10 feet at those ankles."

Even if she's fat, she was hunting 24/7 and just made decisions not to engage, to conserve energy for the next hunt.

Solensia is an injection they can get to help with arthritis and walking. It's once a month and can help with improvement over time. It's not super expensive either. It might take a couple of months to show really good improvement with walking, but for mine it helps pretty quickly.

I think as long as she's eating and drinking that it's worth a shot. I would worry more about cancer being a possibility or being aggressive if they were losing weight and/or not eating regularly, but you know your cat best.

If costs was an issue I would just ask about that and skip any other blood work.

I've seen cats go over 20 years lately. Some up to like 22-23. Either way, sorry you are going through that.

Sorry you’re having to go through this. When they are such a good pet, it’s so sad and hard to let go!

If I could offer some advice…we’ve had three pets pass over the years: came home to find one gone naturally but prematurely, waited too long into an illness to put another down, and then had an old man that we scheduled a home vet to come put down when we saw a very similar kind of decline (he ended up soiling himself in the week leading up to that because of a mass on his leg that made it hard to get up)

His was the one I have the least regrets/trauma surrounding the situation if that offers any kind of comfort that you’re making the right decision.

I’m sorry. Really.

Our kitty is 17 and on meds every day .. it’s either ibd or cancer but I’m not putting him through a scope but there helping. He still eats and drinks and jumps up on my lap. Chases lizards now and again. Just doesn’t play anymore but I guess that’s ok.

It’s never easy.

Animals domesticated by humans go looking for a place to die. The cat knows it's over. She wants to go where she likes the smell of the bath robe. Let her. OP could have a vet do the deed on said bathrobe, and the cat will only experience the bliss of experiencing of where they want to be.

Only an animal that was blessed with love and care by their owner would live that long. Dogs are special in their own way and though different, so are cats. I know from experience how hard it is to put down a pet that is loved, but don't let it suffer. Try to make it a celebration of the all crazy, fun and special times ol Calico has given you guys.

She has never been on meds believe it or not. She was always healthy, aside from some anxiety.

Our Oreo was coughing up for balls .. several a week. The one that looked like a lizard but was not one bight is a trip to the vet.

He’s ok most of the time with the meds and the furballs and pulling his own fur out have 98% stopped.

I’m thankful for that we have him for now. We’ve had him 16 of the 17 years.

My fella wants to be on my lap. Always. And I obviously can’t always have him on my lap. He’s a snuggle bug.

Let her go. Eventually, she will crawl into someplace you can't reach or can't find if you don't let her go where she's safe. There's nowhere she'd rather be than on that robe with a bunch of human hands on her.

Goddamnit. Everyone is healthy until they're not.

We had to put our tuxedo cat down at 18 1/2. It was tough, but it was time. Still miss her around the place, though... you get used to them being there.

We are going through similar with our 23 year old Tabby. It’s hard to let them go.

I feel for you. I've had to put down a 21 y/o and a 19 y/o cat and it ripped me both times.
