and Lyons Yellin of Gambit's TV partner WWL-TV reported that "almost all" the prep sports staff was let go.
That used to be one of their strong points, IMO.

I'm pretty sure Jarvis is safe. He brings clicks.
The high school sports network, they sure had a lot of bluster when they went live with that, but it absolutely sucked. Nothing was ever up to date, it was hard to find scores, etc. It was terrible.
Surprised about Pope and surprised about Jimmy Smith. The tulane writer was pretty bad, no loss there.
But they let some really good people go. I guess they will be working at the Advocate in a month or two.

Wife is a higher up at The Advocate. Georges plan all along when he bought the Advocate was to putt the Time out of business since they wrote some not nice articles about him when he was running for office. Looks like it is working

I honestly don't know one person who reads the local newspaper everyday.
But they sure as hell visit the local newspaper website.
That and they get their "news" from Facebook.
It's just a dying business model.
I bought my house May 2014. They've been throwing papers in my yard since I moved in. I figured it would stop at some point when the subscription ran out, but nope.
I just toss them in my trash bin. Part of my routine.

He'll likely keep his job just because of the sheer amount of hits that his articles receive. Business is booming for paid trolls.

My neighbor lady uses them for dog shite bags, so I don't ever have to pick them up

Garbage company. Pure garbage.

see what happens when they'd rather hire grads from the Northeast rather than our locals to report the news...

Thanks for reminding me why I cancelled my T-P subscription.

I dropped them when they turned into the athletic Clarion Herald. I kicked WWL TV to the curb as well for the same reason.

I have gone from (for decades) reading the T-P front-to-back every day I'm in town to never even seeing their website, much less buying their newspaper.
NYT online, BBC and T-D.
I've known Mathews for about 15 years. Maybe he couldn't have played his hand any better. I know I'd rather have Advocate's position than the T-P's.

Me too, he's a race baiter tried an true! It's sad that they use such a divisive guy to get the 'clicks' needed over the net...

The site "paper" or site, AL.com or Alabama Media Group went through this about a month ago. The are affiliated with The Press Register in Mobile, The Huntsville Times and The Birmingham News.
It is my understanding Advance Digital, which owns both companies is moving towards more video production vs articles. .... this leads to more sales.
(AL.com has a larger sales staff that content staff these days.)
