Nat'l General
2022 $1,262
2023 $1,503
2024 $2,229
Car is paid off, 10 years old. No wrecks or tickets in probably 20 years. Haven't had a claim since 2001(I was in high school on my parents insurance). Husband has company truck, so I guess we get penalized for only having one vehicle.

Smh my insurance won’t cover my cars anymore for some stupid reason so need to get 2 insurance for 2 cars instead of bundling
Posted on 4/23/24 at 4:53 pm to LSUMaverick
It sucks and is a hassle but you need to switch insurance every 2 years.
After 2 years, the renewals are out of control.
Switch and get new insured discounts.
Rinse and repeat

In fact, one of my cars was totaled and the new one which is the same model, newer year only costs about $150 more per year and I have high limits. I've shopped around and it seems I could possibly save about $600 per year total for the bundle of cars and home but I'm not certain it's apples to apples and I'd worry about what OP mentioned with subsequent hikes.
every company I’ve been with does the same jacking up of premiums each renewal

Same boat as well. Had SF forever. 3 different cars from $90-$120 month for last 20yrs. Low deductibles. Only claim they came to my house looked at the car, said I had to get it to Slidell if that's who I wanted to fix it. Said not a problem.

Farm Bureau just went way up on my homeowners. Time to shop around

Nothing more expensive than cheap insurance. Farm Bureau is not cheap but they pay without hassle when you have a claim- at least in my experience with them.
Before my divorce, I had both Progressive and GEICO. My wife totaled two vehicles, once under each company’s policy. My 18 year old son totaled a truck, also under Progressive. I had zero issues, and both companies cut me what I considered to be a generous check each time.

We had a vehicle totaled when we had Geico for a few years and it was fine. The payout was fair and the process was relatively smooth.

Geico’s been pretty consistent for me

You need to drop the collision on a 10 yo car.
Having one less driver than vehicle should lower the rate you pay.

A big provider in Alabama is ALFA. I had them for several years but finally had to switch in February because of how high my premium had gotten (just one vehicle) and the rate at which it was increasing every six months. Have a friend who uses State Farm and really likes his agent. I got a quote through that agent and it was dramatically lower than my ALFA premium, so I switched.

Same. Mine just renewed and was expecting a big increase as everyone is talking about huge hikes but surprisingly was about the same.

I renewed my policy March 1 with Progressive at $2,100 for a truck and mid-size SUV.
I got an email from Credit Karma saying they can lower my auto insurance with Progressive. The link took me to another quote from Progressive for the same exact coverage but it came it at $1,200... I cancelled my March policy and bought this one. I am getting a pro-rated refund of $1,600 which means I am gaining another month and 20 days of coverage AND a refund of $400 back into my pocket...

Been with Geico for years, Finally switched to Progressive. Payment went from $396 per month (2 vehicles full coverage) to $203 per month with better coverage.

I wish that dumb arse governor of ours would pursue real issues like this instead of debit card use at Tiger Stadium.

You’re a sucker to keep switching. They bait you with low prices to hook you and then jack them up. Especially companies like Geico and Progressive. If you have all your insurance with a good company, they grandfather you in to lower prices so it doesn’t make sense to switch. All things being equal all companies will be near the same price. You’re wasting your time to save a few hundred dollars per year and then you’ll be shopping every six months. I have better things to do with my time than worry about a few hundred bucks per year. I pay over $1,200 per month for all my vehicles and my house.

I just switched from Allstate to Progressive. I was paying around 148-150 a month with Allstate. Now paying 130 a month with progressive.

You need to educate yourself about underwriting. The first year they charged the normal rate. If you didn’t have a claim that increases the odds that you’ll have a claim the next year. Another year with no claim raises them again. You are basis ticking time bomb. It’s all about probability.
You are getting downvoted into oblivion on this, but you aren't wrong.
My dad (RIP) was NEVER involved in an accident of any sort during his 62 years on the planet and NEVER got one single ticket.
At roughly age 59, he was shopping around to find a better deal than what he was getting with his current company and 2 different insurers flat out told him "NO" basically because "he was due to become a liability"

Just have to shop around.
Been with North Light thru Allstate. New quote was over $8000.
Went to an independent insurance agency and found Sage Sure for a little better coverage at a cost of $3500
