Hospitals are horrible work environments. I left and went to a surgery center. Took a pay cut. I work Monday Tuesday Wednesday and go to the house. I still don’t really like being a nurse anymore but it beats the hospital for sure.

My sister got out of nursing and into medical device sales and she likes it much better. Makes more money too. She got tired of the 12-hour shift life with weird hours.

If the pay is very good, take the 10k cut. Very easy choice

I’m more of a money guy myself, however it depends truly on how much happiness it would bring you.

When i was married, more time at home was far from happiness

I guess it depends how much you're making now. Making 50k a year and cutting it down to 40k? Probably stay in your current job. 100k to 90k? Make the move.

i took a paycut for a significantly (now i know) worse opportunity. It's the definition of misery for me right now.

Would I trade $4.80 per hour for happiness?

I would trade a hell of a lot more than that.

Never forget, time is among THE most precious resources. Can get the $10k back in spades in future. Time? Not a chance. Gone.

Don’t waste it.

Ever.

I would think you could counteract much of that cut with a signing bonus where you land.

I have an opportunity to leave. The money has gotten very good but the job sucks. I take as much joy as a coal miner must. Perhaps I exaggerate but you get the drift.

Bottom line. I bet I take a $10k/yr cut in pay but the trade is more time at home and just not being in this job anymore.

These two statements don’t seem to jive… if the money is that good 10k seems pretty negligible for a much better job.

honest question..do you work 3 days a week currently? Most nurses I know have that schedule. I'm curious how much more time at home you're expecting ot get with a job change.

Fair.

One job is the same timewise but, I'd work from home.

The other job, I am unsure, it may be 8's or 12's. But the constant every other weekend is a thing of the past and the yearly bitch fest over holidays is gone too.

If you actually make "money" and you factor the cost of "happiness" at 10k, then I don't even know what decision there is.

If 10k is the actual figure, then you'd probably be more happy making 10k more as opposed to 10k less.

Nurses EVERYWHERE are getting paid more, but the most is critical care. I am in ER currently. But all nurses got a bump.

Also, the bonuses for staying are gone. Bonuses for not quitting and Biden Bucks paid for my house to get Hardy plank and painted, and a sweet guitar, and extra storage building/workshop built.

But I can't hang my hat on that year. It was an outlier.

How does a job change create happiness? Chances are the things that are making you unhappy now will follow you to the new job.

Half correct. It can’t create happiness. It can remove some unhappiness and stress.

But to update I had to turn it down. I underestimated their ability to lowball. After an offer/counter/counter I was still left with about a 25% pay cut.
