When the whole McCarthy thing was getting really mainstream I was dating a gal who was getting deep into her psych degree.... they had to actually stop learning about real issues and get all the mainstream media stuff out of the way. She was furious because it added to her already heavy class work.
Every so often when she was really stressed out i would drop a little 'McCarthy nugget of knowledge' on her and she would go off on me.... then she realized that I was just messing with her. Its proof that idiots will follow celebrities blindly.
