and another reason to be furious with the mom. She has to know the kids cant swim for shite.

I used to obsessively chase hood rats out of our complex pool for just this reason. They'd jump the fence and swim at night. We replaced the fences (raised them) and put locks and new lights. Nothing could keep them out....they finally quit after I grabbed one of their shoes and threw it into the lake. I was legit worried one would die.

A mother was arrested and is accused of allowing three of her children to drown.
Patricia Allen, 30, was charged with injury to a child after witnesses said she was distracted by her cell phone as her children played at the pool.
The three children who died were 10-year-old August Smith, 9-year-old Treshawn
In case you're wondering how many words it took to answer that question with 100% certainty, the answer is 57.

damn shame

Research Study REVEALS 60-70% OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND HISPANIC KIDS CAN'T SWIM

A recent study commissioned by the USA Swimming Foundation and conducted by the University of Memphis found that nearly 70% of African American children and nearly 60% of Hispanic children have low or no swim ability, compared to 40% of Caucasians, putting them at risk for drowning.

40% of Caucasians - higher than I would have guessed

how.

in the actual frick.

do people not know how to swim.
Not a lot of water in a lot of Africa. In America, slaves weren't allowed to learn how to swim because they could get away, so the fear of water was always put in them. After emancipation, blacks weren't allowed in most public swimming facilities because of segregation. After integration, blacks still didn't live close to water as often as whites did, and blacks were less likely to own their own pools. Even today, there are only so many public swimming facilities in urban areas, hence the limited swimming experience possessed by blacks. Basically, literally every historic, geographic, and cultural factor that contributes to a culture learning how to swim is one possessed by white America and lacking in black America. The result: blacks drown much more frequently. LINK

How do all 3 die at those ages in a pool

I'll say this, man...my lady and I went to Liberty Lagoon with my 5 year old (two years of swimming lessons already) and the deepest water was in the lazy river at 3.5'. There were SO MANY LIFE JACKET WEARERS...it was incredible. And of all these life jacket wearers, about 5% were accompanied by adults at all times.

What in the actual frick, society? That was just the worst experience I've had in the middle of the general public in a long time.

That's great, but these kids have access to a pool, and swimming is a learned skill, like basketball or driving. The only way to drown is to have access to a pool, for the most part.

What the hell is wrong with some of you people? 3 children are dead, and yet you are using it as a platform to make racially charged comments regarding their names and stereotypical ability to swim? I get that there has been a lot of shite happening in the last few weeks that pisses people off and seems skewed towards a certain a certain belief system's favor, but damn.

Grow the hell up.

No need to go any further. I was just answering the guys question. There's a reason blacks drown more frequently, that's all.

That the kids can't swim at their age AND the mother was completely wrapped in Candy Crush or Angry Birds on here phone is not limited to any race. Black, white or indifferent it's flat out unacceptable.

That's the problem here...parenting is just a lost art. It's leading to decaying society.

My 3 year old can swim, but I took him to the pool every summer since he was a baby. It's almost like you have to teach your kids things so they can learn.

You should ride your high horse over to the community pool and teach people how to swim.

Yeah, you are correct. But that's not the direction that some people took it in.

Very prevalent in low income areas tbh. (not exclusively). But yea, most of those kids aren't at the country club pool learning to swim.

Your answer was a poor one. Answering the question of how a 10 year old, with access to a pool (or anyone with access to a pool) doesn't know how to swim with "because the white man a century ago didn't let black people swim" is pretty weak.

The question was how people don't know how to swim. Obviously, the answer to why more people drown is because they don't know how to swim, but you didn't really address the question. Or you did, but with a spurious answer. That's all.
