Yeah Fox News said this was the first to start this morning. Cox webpage has the bids listed for the next ones on Mitch's list.

Landrieu has begun reviewing a bid for the removal of the Davis, Robert E. Lee and P.G.T. Beauregard statues, WWL reported.

I wonder if providing the kevlar and vests was part of the base bid or an alternate?
Posted on 4/24/17 at 3:19 am to AndyCBR
I'm sure it was in the original bid.

A dark day to be a New Orleanian.

In 1891, the city erected a monument to commemorate and praise the insurrection from the Democratic Party point of view, which at the time was in firm political control of the city and state and was in the process of disenfranchising most blacks. The white marble obelisk was placed at a prominent location on Canal Street. In 1932, the city added an inscription that expressed a white supremacist view.

I seriously don't see why people are up in arms over this either way. It's just a waste of money but overall does it really matter?

I guess New Orleans crime will drop to hardly anything now that all those racist statues are gone.

Where are they taking the monuments?

I hear a 25% decrease so far.

Middle of the night, taped over company names, tarps to obstruct views, police restricting media access, mysterious private funding of a municipal project... Could this be any more bizarre? Strikes me like something that wouldn't happen in America.

I'm pissed about it simply because those pussies got their way. As if a fricking statue makes a bit of difference on anything.
Now the monuments will end up at Landrieu's buddy's new confederate museum where both will profit off of them. What a piece of fuzzy dogshit.

I wonder how many people here voted for Mitch

This is a largely undiscussed issue as well. How the hell is that being allowed? They are giving / permanently loaning public property to a privately held business for use
In making a profit?

Are the monuments down?
I saw some brothers with some shoevels thinking they were going to dig up Nathaniel Bedford Forest a few weeks back.

Never change, Louisiana

I guess the voters wanted this over fixing pot holes and fighting crime. We should not pay for the state police to give extra attention to the city, when they obviously have enough money to spend on removing statues.
