But they fought for states that wanted to persevere that terroristic institution?
And the north cared so much about slavery that the union army used freed slaves as forced slave labor and slavery continued to be practiced up north well into the civil war.
You're really quite ignorant sir.

Both sides? Huh what ?

I would imagine the public records request has already been submitted to find out if he is telling the truth. The guy who built the slave museum in Hahnville offered to pay whatever it would cost when this whole thing started. So beliving it was paid for with private funds isn't that big of a stretch.

Which ancestors exactly? I imagine most people here don't have family trees that span that far back.

Mitch hasn't been this excited about a removal since he paid for his sons abortion.

If there's anything that I learned from my 26 years in New Orleans, it's that if they do corruption better than most.

A better comparison would be of France keeping up statues of Napoleon, or Germany keeping up statues of the Kaiser, or of Northern Ireland keeping up statues of Oliver Cromwell.
The Nazi reference is slightly skewed due to the Holocaust.
so there is a line, you just disagree with where its drawn?

All the lack of transparency makes me think something is illegal here.
The cost is being funded with private funds. The statues are public property, the land is public property. He's using city resources, police, fire, etc...
Doesn't the people of new Orleans have the right to know all the details of the removal and times, where the statues are being stored, etc??

It's funny I actually took a photo of that statue earlier last week and thought "can't wait til hey take it down." I'll post it too.
Wake up this morning, and they are being removed. Great wAy to start the week.
Trash history belongs in a museum. Preserve those statues in a Civil war museum.
They just don't and never EVER deserved public reverence

Does NOLA have any legislation akin to the Federal Homeland Security legislation that allows things to go behind the scenes because of domestic terrorism reasons?

Our union is stronger and closer to its ideals today.

Would you support the city taking down a Malcolm X statue because it was offensive to a certain group?

You're talking about the pussies that are offended by a fricking statue, right?

What ideals are those?

In truth Mitch didn't do this to win an election. He was already term limited out when this statue caper came about. Same goes for the City Council; none of those council members ever had to run in an election where this was an issue.
At least let a full election cycle occur first to let the voters have some kind of say in whether they want their elected officials doing this. This maneuver is very un-democratic when you analyze the timing.

Why do you want the statue of the man who fought for the right for blacks to vote, against the thoughts of most in both the north and the south at the time?
Do you hate black people and those that championed for them?

Obama comes back to public life this week too. Hi five for democracy

I agree that its not transparent but illegal is likely a stretch. The name of the contractor and how this was paid for will come out it is all public record. I doubt with the whole city watching and plenty of people with money, time, and motivation to investigate the mayor would do something illegal.
