quote:

Authorities arrested 15 transient people and issued summonses to four others Monday (Oct. 30) on Decatur Street in the lower French Quarter as part of a joint sweep involving police, the Louisiana SPCA and other groups and agencies, the New Orleans Police Department confirmed.

quote:

The raid targeted so-called transients, or "travelers," at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and Decatur Street and in the 1000 block of Decatur Street, two areas frequently trafficked by French Quarter and Frenchmen Street tourists --and regularly used as gathering points for transients.

quote:

Those arrested are not local homeless people, but "travelers" who move from city to city, Washington stressed.

quote:

The arrests and summones came in response to a number of complaints from the area's residents, businesses and visitors regarding "the behavior of individuals who have resisted being connected with outreach services," according to an email from Washington. "Their activities have disrupted the quality of life for residents, business owners and tourists."

Aren't these people like modern day hobos? They're choosing to live this way right?

Tell them to take their shared needles and stench elsewhere.

yeah... they aren’t basic homeless. They aren’t looking for any help or outreach. I wouldn’t doubt a good percentage come from well off families....

The poor puppies that have to live with these undesirables.

they do, their parents deposit money into debit accounts so they won't come home. I hate being in line at the grocery or gas station, they stink up the entire place. or when you're at the grocery and they walk by you in the aisle you almost pass out. They are a walking health code violation.

I like how it migrates..... it was once under Claiborne on the downtown side of Canal.... it moved to Duncan Plaza in front of city hall.... it moved to under the ponch expressway across from greyhound station..... then moved closer to the river camp and calliope..... now under the Claiborne underpass on the uptown side of canal......

And so is life....
