One of the local municipalities just lost a huge class-action on the cameras (I think Kenner) and had to refund all the money with interest. Of course, people who paid $130 got $32 back and the lawyers got millions.

They just filed the same class-action in Gretna so they will most likely lose that one as well.

In the meantime, NOLA looks to expand the program. Brilliant! Brilliant I tell you. Seriously, Mitch is running the city like a monkey pounding on a typewriter.

Honestly, thank god. Last time I was in New Orleans I thought, "man the crime here is bad. If only there were more red light cameras, this place would be perfect."

Damn. Maybe the speeding tickets are the cheap ones then, but I could be wrong.

Doesn't over half the money go to an out of state consultant or some shite? That's how I morally justified not paying them so I hope it's true.

With half of that ending up in his pocket. How do people not see through shite like this?

lulz $32 back only?

People fought tooth and nail to get rid of them here and had a referendum which was in the citizens favor. Same will probably happen there. Thanks for sharing that story about Gretna.

Got mailed a ticket for going 31 in a 25 near city park NOLA. Anyone who says these cameras are about safety can go suck a dick.

Yeah, he wants to double the rates because people are getting wise to the fact that you don't HAVE to pay them because nothing can be done to you if you don't... I would absolutely double the fines because if 50% of people pay the increased fines, then that's nearly as good as 100% of people paying the lower fines...

Either way, I just don't park downtown anymore and they're NEVER getting my $950.00...

Plenty of things to bitch at Mitch about but this isn't one of them. It seriously boggles my mind how people continually get caught by these cameras. The cameras are clearly marked. When you see the camera coming up, just slow the frick down or go the speed limit and you have nothing to work about.

Funny how there isn't a single camera on Cliaborne Ave.

They need to put a few on there, especially by that school between Jackson and Washington

I got popped twice at the one in City Park on Harrison Avenue. I started going the speed limit in the city and haven’t gotten once since

How many tickets is that? I believe they also go into neighborhoods

You can get booted. That's the downside. I don't pay the safety tax either. I just park in private lots when in NOLA, but be careful. They have sneaky white vans rolling around with license plate recognition software and they can get you even if parked on a side street.
