The whole intent of the PC bullshite is to remove things from history.

Y'all need to get your narratives straight.

Wouldn't the "PC" people want to keep the slave trade at the forefront of people's minds in order to demonize whitey? Wouldn't removing any talk of the slave trade be counter to the purported goals of the current 2019 PC Police Movement?

No one is trying to stop teaching about the slave trade. Maybe try and stop clutching your pearls at everything.

You admittedly have me on semantics. Intent, however, is fear of the slippery slope. I pointed out how quickly it went from cultural insensitivity to racism in the article.

Reading about the slave trade is a little different than having an activity where you have to put yourself in the shoes of an actual plantation owner and go through some of the motions of trading slaves yourself as a student.

Why, because it takes higher thinking skills, than simply reading?

This way too complex of a question for a fifth grader.

How old is the slave?

How strong is the slave?

What skills does the slave possess?

So many variables determine price.

Add 40 time and this reads like a checklist for GM’s at the NFL combine

Apparently so does grammar, but no one seems to be giving you any shite for it.

There's a major difference between teaching students about the slave trade and reenacting it.

This assignment is poorly written. Points for trying to teach about the pricing back then other than comparing it to car prices, though.

This whole story does exactly that. It isn't mutually exclusive.

They want only non whites to be able to discuss it in the matter they choose with no regard to historical facts.

It happened but how could you think it was a good idea assigning a slave pricing project? Cover the history of it and how we’ve tried to correct the effects of it. Of course some snowflakes shudder at even the mention of it being taught in classrooms. And then it’s okay to teach 7 year olds about drag queens though.

Another valid point.

That's a discussion for much older folks to have and should be used as an illustration of how dehumanizing slavery is. 5th graders? Fuuuuu

I totally have to agree with you...but I got to say... If the teacher came dressed in drag and had an assignment about tolerance he would be promoted and praised...

LOL, talk about trying too hard.

You're equating something logical like don't ask 10 year olds to put a price on a slave to saying we should never talk about it and pretend it never happened?

Your logic is pretty terrible here.

If you read the article, many other products, including grain, were asked about. You cannot eliminate slavery and the slave trade from historical discussion, even in the 5th grade. Slavery and its effects on our country are a lynchpin of American History.

Ah shite, I think he trolled and I took the bait.

My son's history teacher was just suspended for having the kids break into different groups - northerners for and against slavery, and southerners for and against - and to write a rap song (yep - a rap song) about their reasons for having that stand.
Except one African-American girl who was assigned to southern pro slavery group asked if she could be moved to a non-pro slave group and was told No.
