KATC reached out to Jeanerette Police Chief Jeremy Matthews who said they called in the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office on Christmas Day to help them when they realized they could be investigating a homicide. He said he knew they did not have the resources that IPSO had. Matthews said the sheriff's office sent in the crime scene unit and a detective immediately to investigate and they have been calling the shots since.
If they don't have the resources to conduct a criminal investigation then what is their function?

Yea no shite. The suspects could have dumped him on the Jeanerette PD's doorstep and it would have gone unnoticed for years.

Breaking up fights, stopping domestic squabbles, and writing tons of tickets.

How do you expect the elite to skim money if there is no money brought in to skim?

The "elite" of Jeanerette? How much money do you think they're skimming from traffic tickets? Is it worth the effort?

Are these comments really necessary? This situation is bad enough. No need to bring your racism into it as well

But the truth sucks, eh?

Brief hijack,

I was pulled over by a Jeanerette Marshall in the summer of 2015 for 75 in a 65, my fault completely, I was speeding, no doubt about it.

About 2 weeks after I got the ticket I received a letter in the mail from the Town of Jeanerette stating they'd keep the ticket off my record, move it to a non-moving violation for a $125 fee or I could pay the ticket for $200 or whatever it was. It definitely read as a sketchy way for the town to keep more of the money than I (assume) have to turn over some of it to the state.

Town police like that don't have to report tickets to the State and Insurance companies like Parish police do.

So basically most tickets like that will never go on your record regardless.

Take a picture of the cash amount and send that to them.

With a non-ending supply of people to write tickets to on hwy. 90, I would assume one cop can pull in about $3k a day easily.

While there are costs involved with putting him out there, they are surely negligible compared to the money he takes in. Just a guess is that his pay plus equipment runs them about $350 a day.

Accounting is so easily adjusted, changed, etc. Some of it can even get lost, flooded, burned up in a fire, or just never done.

I, like you, am sure that it is all run above board and that no Louisiana politicians would partake of illegal fruit.

All honest and whatnot...

Anyone who has ever fished or worked out of Grand Isle/Fourchon knows to not speed in Golden Meadow. Speeding tickets funded a very disproportionate amount of their budget in the 70s and 80s. I doubt anything has changed since then.
If Jeannerette is funding their civic overhead through speed traps, like GM, Bunkie, and who knows how many other little towns, that's kind of an ugly reality. Larger municipalities do the same shite through civil asset seizure programs. But to imply that the "elites" of the town are all skimming large amounts of cash seems silly to me.

I'm not sure how much, if anything, is turned over to the state. When LSP writes you a ticket, you pay the parish, not the state. Maybe the parish kicks up a portion to BR. I'm not sure.

Here's what I do know: If a small town cites you for speeding, it's probably less expensive for them to get $125 now, rather than go through a court appearance or two to get $200 in six months. Unless the ticket was total bullshite, I know I'd rather pay the $125, have it reduced to a non-moving violation and not have to appear in court (or hire an attorney to appear for me), than have to drive back to court in Jeannerette and end up paying $200.

To imply that I said all of them seems silly to me. Those who are guilty know who they are.

You sure are bunching up your lace over this, being from Madisonville. Nice alter for hiding that you are a Jeanerretian.

ETA. I just saw that you changed my words again to "Large amounts of cash". Stop changing my posts into your words and acting like I said any of it. Are you fricking Tangerine?

Sad that the plot thickens. Good that all involved with this are found and punished.

Should update title with the new news and thread page number with this link on it.

Seriously, if they were conducting a murder or missing person investigation, how the frick do they not look in the garbage can for 4 days? That's some serious incompetence.

Those officers and detectives should be fired. What a joke Jeanerette is. They're more worried about writing speeding tickets and being a crooked police dept than finding a missing person.
