After Cleo the 4-year-old Labrador went missing, her owners found her somewhere they didn't expect: At home.

Except that it was the family's previous home in Lawson, Missouri, rather than their home in Olathe, Kansas.

The family hadn't lived in their Kansas home for nearly two years, but Cleo made her way back to its porch, where the new homeowner found her.

"My wife and I had just gotten home from work," Colton Michael, the house's new owner, told CNN. "Cleo was laying on the front porch at the front door, just laying there, waiting for somebody it seemed like."

Cleo wasn't wearing a collar, but she was too well-groomed to be a stray, Michael thought, so he had Cleo scanned for a microchip. Thankfully she had one and it pulled up the name of her owner.

"That's when my wife pointed out that their last name was the same last name as the previous owner of the house," Michael said.

So he went onto Facebook and searched the owner's name and saw that his family had posted that their dog went missing a week earlier.

"I told him that we found his dog, but once I told him where we were, he was kind of speechless," Michael recalled.

Door to door, Cleo would have had to travel 57 miles from her current home in Kansas to her previous home in Missouri, according to CNN affiliate KMBC. And neither family knows how she made the trip, considering the fact that she would have had to cross a river or a bridge rushing with heavy traffic to get to the house.

But no matter how or why she made the trip, her owner said he's just glad that he found her.

I just don't understand how the dog could have found its way back after all that time. It probably made the 57-mile journey once in the back of a car when the owners first moved from Missouri to Kansas and now two years later it was able to find its way back to its old home? How?

After sheltering in place for a few weeks due to COVID, I couldn't even find the way to our neighborhood Costco when it opened back up without using Google Maps.

I knew dogs were amazing, but this is some other worldy shite.

Have you ever watched any sort of animal planet documentary? Everything from Salmon, sea turtles, elephants and wolves either find their way back to the stream or beach they were born on or traverse hundreds of miles looking for food and water in places they know and remember having made the journey before. Why should dogs be any different? The dog grew up there, so if it got lost, it probably just instinctively headed for home.

That is freaking incredible! Almost seems like it’d be fake it’s so unbelievable. Dogs are smart as shite. One of our dogs is a rescue that lived on a farm and was an only dog. She can legit kick a soccer ball to herself all over the yard. She’ll boop it with her nose, use her front legs (usually left one) stiffened up and “kick” it and follow it. It’s the damndest shite I’ve ever seen. It’s not quite “travel 57 miles back to your old home” impressive, but it’s always impressed the shite outta me

Wonder if the family didn’t get the chip reprogrammed and somebody saw the old address and delivered the dog. Don’t know why they didn’t call though, if that happened, because presumably the chip also had a phone number in it.

Dogs are awesome.

We just sold our home yesterday and are staying at an airbnb for a few weeks. My dog wouldn't eat last night, so we have a journey going on here.

My 3 labs wake me up every morning at 5, never more than 5 minutes earlier or later. Don't know how they tell time so well, just wish they came with a snooze button for the weekend.
