Family members started asking, again, where is it?
The French started looking.
On this past Sunday, the boat was found, by Americans.
quote:

The discovery was ultimately made on Sunday by a boat belonging to private US company Ocean Infinity, which found the Minerve at a depth of 2,370 metres (7,800 feet), a senior French naval officer said. The search vessel - the Seabed Constructor, which is equipped with underwater drones with powerful cameras - arrived on the scene last Tuesday, the officer said on condition of anonymity. The Seabed Constructor was also successful in locating Argentina's lost San Juan submarine in November 2018 which had disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean a year

I know the French get a lot of shite for surrendering in WWII six weeks after the Germans invaded. But I've at least got to give them their due. While they didn't stay in the fight very long, while they were in the fight, they put up a helluva fight. Look at these figures of what it cost the Germans to conquer France in 1940:

27,074 dead (including 1,129 aircrew)
111,034 wounded
18,384 missing
157,676 total casualties (That's 3,427 casualties daily. To put this in perspective, the Germans lost an average of 3,907 casualties per day on the Eastern Front during WWII.)

1,263 aircraft lost
795-822 tanks lost

And keep in mind that the Battle of France lasted only 46 days.

Cedric de Pierrepont, 33, and Alain Bertoncello, 28, killed in an operation to rescue 4 hostages, one an American, in Burkino Faso last May. 26 French soldiers have died fighting Islamists in the region since 2013.

What got to me was the photo of some of the crew on the sub. The 52 who died must have been in horrifically crowded quarters as that photo only shows about 20.

That three other subs were lost (euphemism) that same year makes me wonder what surviving submariners thought and how they could keep going down with that high a catastrophic death rate.
