You can’t just “tryout” for a university’s team without meeting certain requirements first.

Probably some school's summer camp they put on every year for recruits not necessarily a "tryout" but a workout for the coaches.

He couldn’t have a D1 tryout in a week as that doesn’t exist.

The only way to even tryout for a sports team is as a walk on.

There is no such thing as an in person tryout for a DII player and the portal window ended 6 months ago.

Just another example of Crump lying for personal gain.

The tryout part is not legal for D1, FCS, D2 or JUCO players (which he was) It is lot legal for active staff, consultants or analysts to evaluate players from other schools independently.

Ok then, I didn't see the actual quote before. Nolan had just finished his freshman year of college at a local 2-year school where he played football.

If he genuinely was trying to play at a larger school, which is not unbelievable. The portal window is already long closed. The way it works is he would have to already be accepted at said school, and he would attend walk-on tryouts .As someone who walked on at the college level, early July seems awfully early for college football walk-on tryouts. But I could be wrong as well.

Most likely, Crump is either blatantly lying or wildly exaggerating in order to garner sympathy. Which, frankly, I don't think that should even be necessary. By all accounts, this seems to be a tragic story of a young man with a bright future ahead of him, who passed at a young age.
