I know how they handle it in Jefferson Parish. They fine you a nominal amount ($100 or so) and they will waive the fine if you agree to be called again in the near future.
100 bucks and you are out of jury duty? Sign me up for that

Oh wow. I don’t need them to waive the fee. I’d happily pay $100 to not have to go at all.
Although I guess this would really make juries unreliable if everyone who could, did this.

How can they prove the mail made it to your house? Just say you never got it

I had jury duty last month and 2/3 were no shows. That's not an exagerration, I looked at the roll
White guys wearing torn, dirty t shirts trying to get out of duty
An old black man wearing what looked liked a suit from 1912. His best formal clothes?
But my favorite was the black guy wearing MC Hammer parachute pants, which he had kept in immaculate condition for 15+ years. His best formal clothes, I guess.

How can you forget jury duty? It weighs on my mind all the time when I get selected.

This is not good. I had a cousin that this happened to.

Yes.
I called the court immediately. Lady I talked to was super-nice and rescheduled me a week before Christmas and said “that way you almost definitely won’t get called”
Sounded like few people called so I guess I saved her a nasty-gram.

As opposed to the highly reliable system in place now?

I got a summons last week to report next Monday for Jury selection. First time. I would love to get out of it but I reckon its my civil duty, and I feel like id be a good juror.

Now you will be sent before a jury to await your fate
And then have to wait forever because the jury members forgot to show up

Do NOT show up at a courthouse where you might have a bench warrant. Trust me.

Don’t worry, there are plenty of illegal immigrant US citizens ready to step up for the cause!

I’d pay 100 dollars to not have to deal with it tbh

These days the usps takes pictures of all your mail. My wife can see on her phone what mail is coming before it arrives in the box

I’m actually on a jury summons this week but so far I’ve called and been told I don’t need to report. 2/5 days in the clear so far
