People tell me their relatives are from Shreveport and Cajun. Not mine. Geez. They think all of Louisiana is Cajun.

I always tell them I’m from the bottoms in Batun Rudge and hang out at Bella Noche. They usually give me weird looks, but generally don’t ask any more questions.

and revisionist history.
That Katrina hit NOLA.
You wouldn't believe the amount of people who believe that.

I try not to tell people I’m from there. Not very proud of it. I can’t control where I was born, but I can control where I live. I’m a proud Texan through and through.

People from Texas make me understand why people overseas sometimes hate Americans.

You can be proud of where you’re from without shitting on other places.

I don't think I've ever told someone I'm from Louisiana. I always say New Orleans. Most people have either been to New Orleans or want to visit there. They could care less about the rest of Louisiana. Which, to your point, is a misperception.

I worked in the oilfield and worked in many foreign countries. Every time I started in a new country, as soon as the guys I worked with found out I was from Louisiana, they wanted to know what I was cooking that night. They all assumed that I was a good cook, being from Louisiana. In reality, I never really learned to cook. My grandmother Boudreaux, my mother and my wife, a Caillouet (no pics) were all great cooks. They were always cooking for me and I never had to learn to cook,

By the way, my grandma Boudreaux, from Houma, cooked the best shrimp and okra gumbo I ever ate. And I have eaten gumbo in some of New Orleans oldest, most famous restaurants.

Oddly enough I never say Louisiana. I always say Bogalusa, and 9 times out of ten they know where I am talking about. And they ask if it still smells like shite. I tell them no, the DMSO plant left 20 years ago so it's not that bad anymore.

They think everyone is Cajun, that no other ethnicities exist. I'm from Acadiana and people are shocked when I tell them I'm half Croatian.

50/50 that any of the people I have talked to know where Houma/Thibodaux are in Louisiana. Most people in Texas only pass through La to get to Destin.

I have worked in Mane and Indiana over the last year. A dude in each state told me about the Jambalaya they make. Crock pots and frozen wal mart shrimp.
