Just pay it but make sure you aren't required to do anything else if you go that route. I'm not sure what the laws or requirements are now, haven't had to worry about it in some time.

i have attorney friends with way worse stuff on their record than that. Hell one got 3 dwis in college
Hell I know a bunch that probably have had that while they have been practicing. And they all defend each other.

The profession creates far more drunks than it attracts.

If you were in Louisiana, you pled under Art. 894. I'm not getting into that discussion on my phone.

I thought the norm for this board was at least two?

No, Walt just skews the site average

Not legal advice but if it were me I would go to my court date and tell the prosecutor you plan to plead not guilty and that you want to go to trial. Really bullshite him by asking the procedure for calling witnesses and explain that you plan on representing yourself. That's my general strategy for traffic tickets and bullshite like that. He'll offer you a better deal. That pre-trial diversion is extortion and you're not going to do any worse than the initial offer. Wear a tie any time you go to court. Tell the prosecutor you want to go to law school and are concerned about your record.

An MIP on an LSU game day is a rite of passage.

I know that's "not legal advice", but it may be the best advice I've read on here.

Do you?
I never had a MIP and I wouldn't recommend wasting your one get-out-free card on it unless you know you will never get in trouble again.
Yep. The applications have changed from "have you ever been convicted of a felony?" to "have you ever been convicted of any crime other than a minor traffic violation?"

MIP on LSU gameday
Dumbest thing ever. And here's why. Prior to 1995 when they changed the law, the drinking age was obviously 18.
So, if you were under 18 and had a drink in your hand, they simply made you toss it out. It wasn't worth the trouble to charge a juvenile with an MIP. Now if you were in a BAR that's a different story. I'm talking simply gamedays/Mardi Gras/etc.
This is fricked up law considering when I was in college tailgating the same areas, it was perfectly legal.
TL:DR MIP is a fricking money grab and I'm 39 with no concept of that at your age.

You are being extremely kind. He's obviously chasing higher offices, and apparently believes the voters will like him based on how much money he reels in. The on-campus tailgate MIP targeting is the biggest scam in town-right up there with roadblocks on Corporate Blvd and the criminal acts of Riverside Towing.

In Australia and much of Europe the drinking age is 16
but the driving age is 18
Which would you rather give up?

I did not read all of this, but back when I was in school, I got an MIP while trying to get into the stadium with whiskey. Got a ticket from campus PD and the BRPD. Had to take an alcohol class with campus and a correspondence class with the BRPD. Also did community service with campus. Was on probation for a year or something with LSU. I don't think it was that expensive though. I don't remember paying very much money. But that was almost 10 years ago.

They roll off your record when you hit 21
This can't possibly be true. There is not a person sitting at a desk tracking people who turn 21 just to erase the MIP tickets from their records.

I read that the statute says that first time offenders shall not be fined more than $100
Doesn't include cost of court that is just the fine amount.
