he Army tried to have me embrace this shite as part of the billion dollars they spent on their positive psychology program for combat vets.
If anyone can use it I would imagine it is combat vets. That's not at all a bad thing. But you are a tough guy huh? They not going to make you embrace this shite that, from what I can tell by your post, would probably do some good.
But frick it, its some religious lefty shite... Are progressive lefties even religious? You have everyone on this board telling you its not what you think, there is information available where you can learn about it. Is it safe to say that no matter what you read or what people tell you, nothing will change your mind? If that's the case then.. just stop posting in this thread.

Can there be Catholic mindfulness?
I would respond that mindfulness alone is not a replacement for prayer, but the benefits from mindfulness that have been shown is hard to argue against. I understand there may be Buddhist origins of mindfulness but that doesn't mean it is wrong. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The most basic mindfulness practice or watching your breathing is in no way in conflict with christian tradition. If you only watch your breathing then ok maybe you also need to pray but mindfulness is not a bad practice to take up.

you are literally too simple to understand what anyone is explaining to you in this thread

If you struggle with anxiety, my recommendation as a former Catholic counselor is that you don’t turn to Buddha or pop-psychology, but to Christ. He is the One who promised that if we fill our minds with whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, whatever is excellent, whatever is worthy of praise, what you have learned and received and heard in and through His Church, do; and the God of peace will be with you.
I know you're just quoting but that sounds like the author is spiritualizing the problem. Basically, you have anxiety, pray to God more and he will remove it. I believe that God uses natural means, such as therapy, medicine, psychology, etc to overcome your anxiety.
I'm sure she isn't really saying, just pray and it will go away, but people will easily read it that way.

If it was just breathing techniques that was being taught, then I wouldn't care. But many of these "non-profits" that are encouraging Mindfulness in schools are linked to either Buddhist or New Wave Religious practices. And many are pushing philosophies and ideologies that are at odds with Chritiianity and the West.

Just name the top 3, there's "many" so it should be easy

I usually pray for more anxiety and for God to help me deal with it. My sig quote is from the French Para prayer.

Mindfulness in the life of a Christian is an interesting discussion. As I said I think it needs to be a supplement to prayer as prayer should be the primary focus of our lives and mindfulness helps to improve our prayer.
But you're saying that schools are pushing eastern religious practices. I just don't see how they are doing that. mindfulness may have Buddhist origins but that doesn't mean they are trying to push those kids into Buddhism.
Again don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Interesting approach.
As one diagnosed with an anxiety disorder I don't want more of it in my life, but when it does come I do my best to accept it and live with it. Mindfulness helps me do that. The worst approach is to suppress the anxiety and try to get rid of it, the best approach is to let it take its course on its own and let it pass naturally. That's much easier said than done though. But again mindfulness helps ride the wave of anxiety.

They’re not.
Ironically, Thomas Merton was a big advocate for meditation (particularly silent practice), mindfulness, and contemplation. Dude doesn’t even know his own religion at this point apparently.

The first one you posted doesn't even make mention to anything but cognitive benefits so I stopped looking

Thomas Merton is the Jane Fonda of Catholics.
You are a clever girl; you almost gave me an aneurism, I had to regulate my breathing.

So if we have all these religions saying what we must do who is right and how do you know?
Posted on 9/21/22 at 9:18 pm to OleWar
So prayer tells you which one is right?

It’s simply a state of being akin to the flow state when you are totally immersed in the moment. Time seems to stop.
