believe that God uses natural means, such as therapy, medicine, psychology, etc to overcome your anxiety. I'm sure she isn't really saying, just pray and it will go away, but people will easily read it that way.

It’s like the story of the guy who dies on his roof after Katrina. He refused the rescue in a boat and on a helicopter because he said God would save him. He meets God and says, God, I prayed on that roof for you to save me, why didn’t you?

God responds… I sent a boat and a helicopter to save you…

I’ve been teaching my child about mindfulness for as long as he was able to hear me. If more people learned and used mindfulness if their everyday life, the world would be a much better place with choices made based on logic and reason instead of emotional reaction.

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

don't recall anything from the teachings of Christ, where he said enjoy tranquility

Psalm 37:7
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

Exodus 14:14
14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Isaiah 30:15
15 For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”

Explain why it is great practice.

If done right, it should cost zero dollars, only time. Mindfulness boiled down to the most simplistic is just “being present.” It’s achieved most commonly by recognizing and focusing on the moment with all available senses (touch, sound, smell, etc). As far as how it’s similar to prayer, I believe there have been studies done that show the same areas of the brain light up in eastern monks during meditation as in people in the Christian tradition during prayer. I’ve thought about it a lot and I think they both essentially require a loss of ego through exercices in focus. I’m sure there’s a way to include God in typical mindfulness practices, for all Christians.

God doesn't even ask for this. In addition to what is posted above, there are many more instances of God simply wanting us to be still and silent and wait. You are right, it is all just being present, and it is part of every religion that exists.
