200 bucks an hour for a town of less than 6,000 seems high

The rate should be based on experience and expertise not the size of the town, however the size would tend to go to the number of hours billed. Small town shouldn’t have crazy work unless it’s some special project or arrangement.

You are paying a Louisiana paralegal 280 bucks an hour holy shite lmao.

Are those rates really that high for the most expensive firm in New Orleans? I have no idea, I’m asking.

Those rates don’t seem that bad to me. Our partner and manager/senior manager standard rates are higher than that

I only have experience with JW once and when going over their claimed attorney's fees (it was a trial that morphed into a pseudo mediation with the judge) the judge did ask if they "covered the bathroom walls with gold at Jones Walker", but I didn't get to see their rate sheets.

That sounds about right. There are big law firms charging around that partner’s rate in top 5 legal markets for 1-3 year associates. Now that is highway robbery.

I have heard of this in Austin for their tech industry (again, no applicability to Nola and its "tech industry" ).

I'm sure partner rates in SF/NY for certain corporate things are legit insane. You frick that stuff up, though, and your client can lose billions (or tens of billions if that client is Elon Musk).

For Louisiana that is crazy high.

NYC big law is going to be in the 400ish range but comparing NYC big law to Jones Walker in New Orleans is like comparing Augusta National to Bayou Oaks South.

Just talking about paralegals. The attorney rates are about what I'd expect.

I assume every partner isn't billing that.

Having high rates sucks btw, especially for older associates or newer partners trying to do business dev

Yes. It wasn’t that way five or ten years ago, but it is now. I’m not sure if this is a one off or if there are several others that high. I never checked prices; I just went with the best and paid the price I was quoted. The attorney I’m using is one of only half a dozen in the city I would use. And at least two of the others have the legal acumen but not the client compatibility I consider necessary for great results.

I can tell you that 15 years ago these were the prices for the top attorneys at Locke Lord in Dallas.

That's NY and LA rates in 2006, maybe.
