Yep. This is about what I pay for that sq ft and I live in the suburbs. If I moved downtown, I’d be looked at 2k minimum for 700 sq ft.

I've never understood this bash on millennials. I for one never received this shite, but those that did I don't think asked for them.
If anything bash boomer parents for giving them out.

The Village is a nice area and I would have stayed longer if not for the commute. Uptown pricing is more expensive than everywhere else but it’s amazing how similar the pricing is across the city.
I have a financial model I built to compare apartments and I recently added tolls and gas savings to it. Unsurprisingly, these costs really add up and are directly related to housing choice. Whether a W/D is included, covered parking, valet trash required, tolls to work, gas to work....those variables alone can become a couple hundred a month to factor in.

As it turns out, Millennials pay about $92,600 in rent by the time they turn 30.
22-30 is 8 years
92,600/8 = $11,575
$11,575/12= $965 a month in rent
For all those saying how they should just "find cheaper places", please find me the cheaper places to rent not in the absolutely ghetto for less than that

They're saying millennials should live in the ghetto if that is all they can afford.
Dodging bullets and having your stuff stolen is just part of the life experience!

Not to mention that if that is 45% of your income, you only make $25k a year.

You’re right about Boomer Parents making them. And to be fair, not all from your generation are like the stereotype that’s been hung in your generation. But let’s not forget that stereotypes exist for a reason. There is a sizable chunk of your generation (I don’t think you’re one of them BTW) who do fit the mold perfectly.

Are you actually whining about the damn rent being too high? Then move to an area you can afford, buttercup. Maybe you can’t afford to live Inc that super swanky hip downtown flat just yet. Maybe you need to get a starter home or aprartment while you save up and get established. Maybe you, just like all generations before you, might have to work you way up to your dream place instead of having it just handed to you like a participation trophy.
BTW, it’s shite like this that make your generation look like whiny, entitled, spoiled shits to the rest of us. And you’re probably the worst of them on here.
You quite possibly may be the dumbest person on this site. And that says a lot.

That stereotype has been proven false by most of the numbers. It's exists because the people that fit it are the ones that complain on the internet. It's like people that thought Bernie Sanders had a real chance to get nominated for president. He really didn't have that much support, but all of his supporters were internet savy so they appeared to be much bigger.

I pay $1300 for a 2BR condo in BR. Only pay that much bc I don’t want a roommate. Kills me to pay that much so much, so I’m full speed ahead on saving for a house
Posted on 3/28/18 at 8:24 am to Darth_Vader
Those stereotypes are pretty old though. They came about when most millennials were just coming out of college. Now the majority of millennials are either approaching or already past 30. Most of my entire peer group is millennials and I could pick out maybe 5 that I know that fit the stereotype.
I never once met someone who had an art degree and worked at Starbucks which is how most older groups view millennials.

Sad that it took until page 8 for Old Economy Steve to make an appearance.

How much is your time worth? If you work an 8 hour day plus 2 hours of commute, you are diluting your hourly rate significantly. This 2 hours could be spent working more, getting ahead, career advancement instead of driving.
I'd rather commute than spend 50% of my income on rent. Not having much disposable income is a quality of life issue for me too.

But you only paid slightly less than millennials.

How far is your commute? The reason I ask this question is that this topic popped up with someone I worked with.
