DC law market is doing well but I wouldn't like it. My brother is holding out for a few more years as a patent attorney there before hauling arse.

Poor people need to stop being poor

I'm not convinced it's the millenials who have enough disposable income for "fun" that are complaining, other than complaining about the things that most people of all ages complain about.

There’s more complaining about complaining than actual complaining

Are you talking to the same kid everyday?

I don't get annoyed by frustration from the younger generations, ie "it's crazy expensive to buy a house so it's either pay through the nose in rent for somewhere I like, buy a house somewhere I don't like, or go live somewhere shitty and perhaps unsafe to try and save for a house."
I do get annoyed when there is no acknowledgement of the choice involved and blame attributed to politically-tinged things, ie "maybe if the US provided universal healthcare and college education we wouldn't be forced to live this way..."
The latter is common, although overstated on this board.

LOL yea, says the insurance salesmen bitching about not selling a life insurance policy to a 20 year old.
"cmon, line my pockets without me actually doing anything, you need this!"

TDs definitely needs to change his target audience if he sells life insurance and is talking to 20 something year olds every single day. I also assume there's a bit of salty spin involved in the "can't afford" part. It's more likely most 20 somethings don't want or need to pay for life insurance at this point in their lives. Not sure I had life insurance outside of the little freebie my employers offered until my second kid came when I was 30.

I hope you and your generation the best. Things could quickly go sideways. These are definitely precarious times.

An absurdly high % of people don’t understand exactly the point/value of life insurance.

If you're young, healthy, don't work a dangerous job, and have no heirs, why would you need life insurance? It's literally a monthly bet that you will or will not die. If you "win" the bet that you will die, you're not the one who gets to spend the money anyways!
I understand it for someone who has a family to take care of or works a hazardous job as a first responder, construction worker, oil field, truck driver, etc, but for joe schmo office job, apartment-dwelling cuck, what's the appeal?

My house is well well well beneath that medium price, I live in a small market, I have roommates, I never take vacations or eat zero avocado toast. I cook the vast majority of my meals, have an advanced degree (one of the good ones, not some lesbian dance therapy) with zero student loan debt, have never driven a car with less than 90k miles on it nor one that retailed new for more than $20k, have zero kids, no car note, no drugs, very little alcohol, no boat, no hunting camp, no f-350, no alimony, no yeti coolers, no major health problems, etc and am still paycheck to paycheck working a professional job.
You sound woefully underemployed, what's keeping you where you are? If I was in the situation and didn't have something keeping me here (wife or kid would really be the only thing), I would start searching for jobs elsewhere.

Exactly. Life insurance is meant to care for dependents/people left behind if something were to happen to you. Like a breadwinner dying and leaving his wife and children behind.
It is kinda crazy how it is pushed as the responsible, adult thing to do and they suck in unsuspecting people who don't need it.

I have been, but it’s not easy with a Louisiana law license. You have to take another state’s bar exam because ours doesn’t transfer anywhere (but Texas but not until after 5 years).

Throw in the interest rates Boomers had to deal with. Your 1200 sq ft new house in 1980 with interest, your notes were comparable to a new house today.
This is true, but tell us about the interest rates on savings accounts, bonds, and CDs in 1980. There are two sides of the coin. 10 yr T bills were over 14% 40 years ago; today they are right at 2.0%. 12 month CDs were around 18%--can you even get one above 1% today? Easy vehicles to build wealth that don't exist today.

You could say “learn to code”, but my roommate is a physicist and coder and has built websites for NASA, yet he struggles to find decent work that pays more than $15/hr doing coding.
Does he interview poorly, or maybe freeze up under the pressure of coding exercises?
I have never in my long life known or heard of anyone who wrote code for $15 / hour. This includes people in Mississippi 20+ years ago, offshore developers in Romania, and coop students.

Yeah I work in IT and made more than $15/hr right out of college 20+ years ago in Baton Rouge.

These broad brush swipes between the different generations crack me up. Like everyone of any generation is exactly the same and lived the exact same lives.
Good grief
