2 big reasons for this IMO: less of us jumping into marriage at a young age after short relationships, and most of us will move in together before marriage.

I'm 27, I have zero interest in getting married before I'm 30 and a lot of people in my age range feel the same. Even people who don't want to wait that long still wait until they finish school and/or become financially stable. I only know a handful of people my age who were married by 21, and that was the norm for our grandparents and still extremely common for our parents.

I also think its huge the fact that it's not taboo among our generation for unmarried couples to live together. I've been in a relationship with a girl I thought I would marry only to move in together and realize it wouldn't have worked out. Most people my age have a similar story, so there's no telling how many marriages that's saved just because we weren't forced by family drama pressure to wait until after the wedding to move in together.

And the guy I replied to thinks it's purely rates without the numbers.

I'm saying it's likely one is due to the other.

As a single 30 year old, I did think I would be married before this, especially after having a live in GF for a number of years. We didn't get married because we still had things we both wanted to accomplish before then.

Come to find out, she is batshit insane. Had I been like older generations, we likely would have gotten married then divorced instead of both going our seperate ways without the messiness of a divorce.

I'm 30 and have tons of friends with similar stories.

They co-habitated for a while first and realized it wasn't going to work. Older generations would've gotten married and divorced in these situations.

but if you meet a 40-50+ dude never married...... you know there is something wrong with that dude. Like kiddy porn wrong.

I just always assumed they were gay. I had an uncle that died in his 60s. Never married and only had one long term relationship that I ever remember. He owned his own business too and definitely was not poor. Kind of quirky I guess.

Which neither really matters if you dont have kids......

th03 is right, its the having kids part that matters

If you get divorced young without kids, its like it never happened. If you have kids young without being married/committed, its likely still going to be a fricked up situation

True. But like I said, I wouldn’t wait too much longer. Trust me, you don’t want to be that guy at the ballpark that everyone thinks is coaching his grandkid’s tee-ball team when you’re really coaching your kid.

My parents did make us lie when talking to my grandparents about it.

Grandmother would have freaked out had she known we were living together and not married.

I know, I know they all are. Problem is: I was in "love" and didn't listen to my buddies who tried to warn me.

Learned a VERY valuable lesson from that.

My wife's parents helped her move into my place around age 23/24 and we made our guest room "her room" just for their sake. They knew it was a sham, they saw her putting her clothes in my closet and stuff.

It was just so they could have some sort of plausible deniability or something for their friends in Mississippi

They visited like a month later and she was completely moved into my room and it was kind of left unspoken. Helps that my in-laws love me though.

The best thing some men can do is stay the hell out of their child's life. Shotgun weddings don't make these guys heroes.

I'm 30 and just had my first kid (son).

I don't think 36-48 is old for a kid in youth sports...is it? Meaning I'll be 48 when he's a senior in HS. Thinking 52 when he's graduating college. That's younger than my parents were and they weren't old.
