I love spotting aircraft, and always look up or on flight radar to see what's there. Just saw an IAI (Israel Aircraft Industries) Kfir c2 fly over in New Orleans. I heard a rumble, and by sound alone I thought F35, It was that loud. When I spotted it, I saw single tail, and I could easily tell it wasn't and f16 or f4. Flight radar confirmed it was a Kfir. I've also been seeing a few Hawker MK 58's, the regular f15's, and even saw an f18 on Friday.

Most US jets don't show on radar obviously, but trainers and these two did. Anyone know what they are used for or why they are flying around?

That Kfir was pretty sweet. I would love a closer look at one of those and see what it's capable of.

There's an outside unit (F-35's) doing some training at the base this month. The Kfir you saw is a contractor the military hires to play the bad guys.

ATAC

In the coming years... the F-15's are getting replaced by F-15EX's. Bad arse machine.

F-15EX is a huge waste of money. Horribly overpriced.

They are very loud!!!!

I was at NAS Belle Chase recently and 7 F35s came from Florida and were loud as F! Made the F15s sound quiet. The vertical climb rate of the F35s were impressive! made the F15 look like it was hovering.

I don't understand why we're buy more F-15s instead of just more F-35s.

The slow speed maneuvering abilities are probably more impressive to me than the vertical climbing ability. Insane to see in person, looks like it's floating.

The blowhard has no idea what he's talking about.
F-15EX's are serving two purposes.
1. Replacement of old arse F-15C/D's that several alert squadrons/national guard units use. They don't need F-35's and the EX's slide right into current mission sets whereas F-35's would require more training and MX setup.
2. F-15EX's work with the F-35's in a combat situation. F-35's can penetrate enemy air defenses and provide targeting info for the F-15EX's which are serving as missile trucks from a safe distance.

In the end, USAF is only buying 80 while they will acquire 3000 F-35's. It's just covering a temporary gap. The future state of air combat will be cheaper autonomous drones that fly alongside F-35's or NGAD. This will allow us to add far more capability for cheaper.

This guy gets it.

I will just add that the F-35 was never designed or imagined to be an air dominance aircraft; it is a strike platform. The F-22 is the air dominance fighter, but just like the B-2, we didn't get enough of them. So we are buying F-15EXs to augment F-22s in an air dominance role...especially for the homeland defense role since no adversary has a stealthy aircraft that can reach us.

This is 100% correct

Are you out here with me??

To the OP - this is what you saw, likely, the same exact aircraft

Overpriced would be the F-35. It makes absolutely NO sense that the Navy would purchase and deploy single engine aircraft from a carrier. If I'm a naval aviator I'm sure as hell gonna want a little redundancy built into the part of the aircraft that's gonna bring me home over tens of thousands of square miles of open water!

That's it. Took me by surprise. Hope to see more of it and the f35's. F35's seemingly get shat on, but after seeing them demo'd at a few air shows, I really like it.

Isn't the f15ex replacing the f22? I watched a YouTube video on it and it's impressive. I see no reason for the f22 if the f15 air frame can equal or top it in most phases. Working on an f15 has to be way cheaper than the f22, and I LOVE the f22.

Most impressive aircraft I have seen in "the wild" was a B-1 that flew over me at low level in Huntersville, NC, right outside Charlotte in 98 or 99.

I grew up with the A-10s out of England Air Force Base doing practice runs on my grandparent's barn in Winn Parish back in the 80s. They did it so much that the horses would try to run with them and they would wag their wings at us if we were fishing in the pond.

There’s 8 of them on the base here in Belle Chasse right now. The air show is in a couple of weeks. They haven’t released the itinerary for the show yet, but I’d imagine they’re gonna have a demo team. Come check it out! Always a good time

That’s above my pay grade, but I don’t think so. From what I understand, the E models are the ones that are being pushed now, but I’m not 100% certain. The 22s and 35s are badass, but the F-15 is also a very capable airframe. Fun to watch them fly, I love it
