i explained how a fellow college professor's life was ruined because a female student who wanted a better grade accused him of inappropriate behavior in his office.
it was the first thing the dean taught us adjunct faculty..your office might have a door but never EVER close it with a student inside.
its just common sense advice to not put yourself in a position to be potentially compromised.

Your post above talks about a professor having a closed door meeting with a student of the opposite sex. That's a pretty big leap from having lunch in a public place with a colleague.
