$168 just to get off the boat and walk around Mexico. They’ll stay on the boat.

According to the link even if you stay on the ship you’d still be charged.

In the past, cruise ship passengers had been exempted from the immigration fee, because they sleep aboard the vessels and some don’t even get off the ship during port calls. They would apparently be charged the $42 fee anyway, according to the new budget law.

Kind of an oddly specific number. What is $42 like 350 million pesos or something?

Thanks, but I didn’t need any more reasons to not go on a cruise!
im 58 , 2 years ago I let my wife talk me into going on a cruise. It was on carnival valor. I’ll never go on another cruise. It was like being on a floating Walmart. Smell of skunk weed through the halls, terrible food , nasty people. We went to the pool, I’m telling you 250 lb plus women in thongs. The last night I said let’s go get into the hot tub on the adult deck. We get up there some homeboy has his 300lb queen bent over putting in on her in the hot tub I couldn’t wait to get off that ship. Never again

This is going to hurt Mexican port cities bigly. Tourism is their economy there.

Tourists and cruise lines will just go elsewhere. Who does that hurt? Not USA. It hurts the Mexicans who depend on thousands of tourists coming ashore each day for excursions, shopping, restaurants, etc.

The Mexican president is not negotiating from a position of power. She’s negotiating from a position of emotion.

Try Celebrity. They are universes apart.

I'd never, ever step foot on a Carnival, and would swear off cruises altogether if they were the only cruise line in existence.

Carnival is the Walmart of cruise lines and it’s a business model that works great for them and cruisers who want the cheapest fare possible.

You need to choose a better/different cruise line: higher end options are Regent, Explora, Holland America. Even some bigger cruise lines like Royal, NCL, and MSC have first class options on their big vessels that offer an exclusive feel (The Retreat, The Haven, Yacht Club). Celebrity and Princess are good mid tier options, and Virgin Voyages is also a cut above.

Viking is the way to go if you like river cruises, too.

Carnival is really for people who just want the cheapest fare possible. So you can imagine the average cruiser that attracts.
