quote:

When 9-year-old Laurie Blair Brown tossed a bottle carrying an imaginary distress call into the ocean in 1973, she was certain someone would find it.

More than five decades later, someone finally did.

“Please notify my family that a band of ruthless sponge fisherman are forcing me to dive for them in shark infested waters!” the letter reads.

That's pretty cool, and amazing how quickly the finder and the girl's sister were reunited. It's a shame she is no longer here to see it.

Very first thing I noticed was handwriting and correct grammar. Get a 9 year old today to write that same letter. Yeesh!

53 years made me think of like 1940…it was 1973. Getting old sucks.

The story says her 16-year-old sister wrote it for her, because she didn’t know how to spell some of the words.

His point holds… get a 25 year old “journalism” grad / major to write that?
