Or they have kids and are just shotty dads.

I love my kids way more than any job, and if i could afford to, would quit my job today to be a full time dad.

For actually caring about his child and wanting to be there to help in the beginning? Nice going jackoff

If you just drag up in the middle of a turnaround for 8 weeks the rest of us gotta stick our neck out for you

The kids not even gonna remember you being there

What if your CFO gives a headcount of max 5 individuals in your "department."

Now if this is repetitive work, (retail, fast food, line factory) I agree with you.

However, if this is specialty work, I don't.

Lol just stop. You open up mentioning a CFO sweating bullets over a 5 person department and then allude to them being in retail and fast food. A CFO wouldn't waste their time of a day over a 5 person department.

I understand it's a benefit. I'm telling you the message it sends if things go smoothly in your absence. You're looking at what's on paper and I'm looking at how that translates in reality.

What kind of easy job do you have where you could be gone for 8 weeks and someone else could cover your shite so smoothly?

That doesn't make your comment about becoming a parent only being a female issue any less idiotic.

I actually kind of agree with him. In reality, no, it's not a female-only issue. However, it seems to me that people/companies tend to treat maternity leave as strictly for the recovery and healing of the woman. I never see a company really care at all about the bonding time with the baby or the effort that is requiring in caring for it during the first couple of months. So yes, from the perspective of a company, I think it is viewed as a woman's problem and they therefore receive maternity leave. They don't tend to care that the father also needs that time to bond with the child.

In my opinion, fathers should receive 3 or 4 weeks of paternity leave at a minimum. New fathers have also been worthless sacks of shite at the office anyways due to the lack of sleep they get.

So we’re getting 8 weeks off and in the other thread talking about men not wanting sex. Are we developing vaginas? For fricks sake.

Way more impressive if a man is versed in all subjects and not just NSFW threads.

So now that some companies offer up to 8 weeks paid paternity leave, who here has done it and how did you handle your work taking all that time off?

I got 6 weeks paid. I took two weeks when my daughter was born, went back to work, and now I have four weeks of time I can use for things like doctors appointments, holidays, etc.

Back in the day some cave baws went far and wide hunting mammoths and saber tooths while others stayed at the cave and picked berries with the women

I'm using you in the same sense you did, generally speaking.

If one's work can be so easily and smoothly done in the absence, it's not a very hard job. The flipping burgers comparison comes to mind.

I don't think you can bank unused paternity leave.

Unless you're just lucky.

What real world experience do you have with becoming a parent again?

Who cares if they are innovating, that doesn't apply here. I referred to it as running smoothly despite losing one of the historical giants of the tech industry. Still turning huge profits without him. He had a succession plan in place. My point is still valid.

A company not innovating doesn't stay solvent. Apple is an outlier because of the massive pile of cash they sit on and being first to market in both tablet and touch phone.

My current company damn near went under because of it and millions of people bought our phones for a decade if not more.

I think I see the common thread here. Everyone that is very against this concept appears to be in the construction industry. Which, having worked in it at a time myself, is probably the most inflexible industry when it comes to stuff like this. Also, explains why it has the highest divorce rate, men with multiple children from multiple women, etc. I'm sorry that the industry is that uncooperative when it comes to very important life events. Industry aside, if you could take time when a child birth comes along, I'm sure you would.

I had back surgery last year and was in the bed for 8 weeks. The next morning I was on my laptop and coordinating my crews from the hospital bed.

it's sad that you consider this a good thing. Any company worth it's salt should have measures in place to manage these things when a supervisor has major surgery.

For complaining alot about not having the time to take off for the birth of a child, you sure are logging a lot of time on TD.
