So now that some companies offer up to 8 weeks paid paternity leave, who here has done it and how did you handle your work taking all that time off?

My job allows you up to 120 hrs of paid leave. I took 80 hrs and ran back lol.

What do you do for 8 weeks on paternity leave? Help take care of the kid for a couple weeks, then take a few strokes off your golf game?

If you're company gives you 8 weeks then take it. Help with the kid and fix things around the house. Take advantage of what they give you!

You're expendable. Don't make the case for them.

My husband's company does. He was planning on taking just 2 weeks, but he took the entire time little DP was in the NICU. I have no idea how I would have made it without him. Very grateful for the paid leave and understanding of his company and coworkers.

I believe this is an extreme minority. Most companies don't have anything and say use vacation or FMLA, but FMLA usually doesn't have any pay it just holds your job for 3 months.

This is my number 1 fear.

Even though its given to you, you will always be remembered as the guy who left for 8 weeks due to an honestly female related situation.

8 weeks is pretty ridiculous, but good for you. A lot of mothers only get 6.

If they can go 8 weeks without you, you're a convenience, not a necessity.

We have to use sick days and honestly 2-3 days would be the max without pissing them off.

8 weeks is a long time. Not sure if I would take a full 8 weeks. At least not fully. Maybe work from home or something.

My company started giving us 2 weeks paid leave. I'll definitely take all of that.

I took 2 weeks vacation for our first kid. It is nice not having to save vacation days for it.

I took two weeks vacation and couldn't wait to get back to work for both my kids.

Having said that, my company just started allowing 8 weeks of paternity leave for the dads a few months back.

Wife said we should have another one. Nope.

We get 6 weeks. You best believe I'm taking it once I have an illegitimate baby.

Or so invaluable it was the only way to lure you to their company with a generous comp package.

That doesn't make your comment about becoming a parent only being a female issue any less idiotic.
