As I am very sarcastic and something of a goofball, I find that I need to incorporate the "lol" shorthand when talking to women via text so that I don't offend them. You'd be surprised how easy it would be for them to take a text from me the wrong way.

Lol is a versatile word. Once got just lol text from a woman. She was in fact not laughing out loud, she was pissed.
