Well it's no surprise that this thread has turned into a black vs. white thread again. Why isn't anyone posting about the video? I think this could be a great thing for the black community. Hopefully it gets some traction.

huh? i'm talking about doing the actual studies

watson shows the emotional response that would ensue

i doubt there is a pure genetic link to intelligence. it plays a role, but i bet environmental factors matter more. i mean studies are starting to show that many kids from violent inner cities have brains re-wired like PTSD. plus add in pure individual environmental factors like a diet that doesn't feed the brain. then add in cultural factors that see being smart as a negative, and the brain isn't worked (and it needs to be worked). do this, especially through puberty, and you're going to have a "speed limit" on genetics even if you started with a great IQ.

I'm kind of glad it's frowned upon to study. There are so many other thing that need research money.

You once posted a plan to make blacks become more affluent and successful in society. It was a numerically ordered list. Can you link it for me? Thanks.

this is the original list. i think it's up to 8 now

quote:

the 6-fold path

1. value education, do your work/homework, and graduate from high school

2. avoid criminal behavior and those who are involved in criminal behavior

3. avoid sex until you have a real job after high school

4. get a job in high school. this isn't for money as much as it is to give you experience in work and a history for future employers

5. get a bank account when you get a job, and before you're on your own and keep it as full as you can. do not overdraw the bank account. do not use credit.

6. act like a professional in all non-private settings

that's not for black people. that's for poor people. and it doesn't guarantee wealth, just a very good shot at a solid middle class life

well all the ones but the sex one and acting professionally are done by most successful people. it's just writing it out

many poor people come from such shitty culture that those 6 things are alien to them

7 is don't do drugs and don't smoke cigs

i think there is an 8

You should start a political career. Independents will love you. You probably should run as a Dem to trick the masses that vote blind.

I'm not sure if I agree here. There is value in getting a small amount of credit at a young age. It will help establish credit history and further the budgeting mentality... if used correctly.

By the time I was 18 I had held a part time job for 3 years and my parents helped me to get my first credit card with a very low limit. I don't see anything wrong with this.

you are much more sophisticated and your familial unit is much stronger than the people that list is aimed at

it's much easier to start a credit history at 20 after 2 years of a "real job" than to try to fix a destroyed credit history at 20

Well. In my office, there's two partners that are black, several attorneys and a secretary, I'd say about 40%, which is pretty good representation given that black people make up 32.4% of the population of Louisiana.

Your post is exactly what's wrong with the African American community. It's all whitey's fault, woe is me, etc.

To say white men get everything in this world is just dumb and shows your lack of real world experience. Is there some company somewhere that went with a white guy for purely racial reasons? Sure...but to act like the whole world is against black people and white men are holding you down is only going to hold African Americans back.

The amount of misinformation regarding SSI and disabilities astounds me. Nobody is getting rich off of this program. My son is permanently disabled and receives SSI. It's so little money every month, it doesn't even cover medicine or gas to and from doctors. It helps, but it's not something anyone can live on, especially if they have needs. But, it does surprise me how some people get it for things like asthma or ADD. It's not easy to get. Took us about a year until it was all said and done. They have to pull medical records and interview everyone multiple times. I'm not sure how someone can fake this. Also, the program has changed somehow since Obama took office. I'm not sure what rules have changed, but before my son received the exact same amount like clockwork every month. Now, it's much less and changes month to month. It's not something I even calculate into our budget because I never know what's going to happen from one month to the next. And my son has a well documented and significant disability.

You'd be shocked and sickened at the people who collect disability. I don't know exactly how they're all doing it. I suppose they just find doctors who are willing to build up the medical file. So many able bodied young people collect disability. None are getting rich, but it's still abuse and provides a disincentive to not work.

When my youngest son played in Dixie League baseball, I would occasionally go out to practice during normal work hours (I have my own practice so I can schedule off).

Three dads, all overweight, would shag balls in the outfield. I asked how they got off work, and the reply was "oh, they are all on disability."

Bingo. So many "race" issues are actually class issues.

No, they are IQ issues. Only one in 6 black people is as smart as the average white person. The average black IQ is 85, the average white is 103. THAT is the real issue that nobody ever talks about.

I have read that there is a physiological reason for this. But I don't know if that is really true and I don't want to get banned.

From the "Confessions of a Public Defender" thread on the Poli Board (link on PB):

quote:

No fathers

As a public defender, I have learned many things about people. One is that defendants do not have fathers. If a black even knows the name of his father, he knows of him only as a shadowy person with whom he has absolutely no ties. When a client is sentenced, I often beg for mercy on the grounds that the defendant did not have a father and never had a chance in life. I have often tracked down the man's father in jail and have brought him to the sentencing hearing to testify that he never knew his son and never lifted a finger to help him. Often, this is the first time my client has ever met his father. These meetings are utterly unemotional.
quote:

Many black defendants don't even have mothers who care about them. Many are raised by grandmothers after the state removes the children from an incompetent teenaged mother. Many of these mothers and grandmothers are mentally unstable, and are completely disconnected from the realities they face in court and in life. A 47-year-old grandmother will deny that her grandson has gang ties even though his forehead is tattooed with a gang sign or slogan. When I point this out in as kind and understanding way as I can, she screams at me. When black women start screaming, they invoke the name of Jesus and shout swear words in the same breath. Black women have great faith in God, but they have a twisted understanding of His role. They do not pray for strength or courage. They pray for results: the satisfaction of immediate needs. One of my clients was a black woman who prayed in a circle with her accomplices for God's protection from the police before they would set out to commit a robbery. The mothers and grandmothers pray in the hallways -- not for justice, but for acquittal. When I explain that the evidence that their beloved child murdered the shop keeper is overwhelming, and that he should accept the very fair plea bargain I have negotiated, they will tell me that he is going to trial and will "ride with the Lord." They tell me they speak to God every day and He assures them that the young man will be acquitted.
quote:

Part of the problem is that underclass black women begin having babies at age 15. They continue to have babies, with different black men, until they have had five or six. These women do not go to school. They do not work. They are not ashamed to live on public money. They plan their entire lives around the expectation that they will always get free money and never have to work. I do not see this among whites, Hispanics, or any other people.

The black men who become my clients also do not work. They get social security disability payments for a mental defect or for a vague and invisible physical ailment. They do not pay for anything: not for housing (Grandma lives on welfare and he lives with her), not for food (Grandma and the baby-momma share with him), and not for child support. When I learn that my 19-year-old defendant does not work or go to school, I ask, "What do you do all day?" He smiles. "You know, just chill." These men live in a culture with no expectations, no demands, and no shame.
