Which is irrelevant, the percentages of educated blacks and whites unemployed are pretty similar. If what he was saying was correct, educated blacks would have a lower unemployed rate compared to whites. So the look around the office statement is valid.

Like every discussion on race, everyone wants to put everything into black and white (no pun intended) when in fact nothing has more shades of gray than race issues.

Sometimes, there is an advantage to being black. I know of employers who go out and seek someone black (e.g. a black prosecutor). Often, the opposite is true. Race neutrality as a goal has been hard to meet.

Years ago, I was on a flight with a black pilot. The man next to me said "well, we either have a pilot who was much better than everyone else since that's the only way he could get the job or we have the token, barely competent pilot."

Hopefully, we're beyond the point where it is either (a) or (b).

who brought up this angle? i don't even know the stats on this to discuss. do you mean educated blacks v. all whites or educated whites?

i'll go look it up but i need to know what you're talking about exactly

i haven't seen the exact data, but economists like walter williams and thomas sowell have analyzed it and they have said (since the 70s) that educated black couples earn as much/more than white counterparts.

it's a problem of scale/proportion because there just aren't that many data points to use to compare, b/c black-married couples who are both college educated are rare. the exception and not the norm.
