What if he was sitting on millions, mostly all consisting of church donations and backdoor deals? My scenario seems more likely.

Wasteful from what the gov't chips in, maybe

Sounds like the church got a good deal. If it draws a couple people there, probably worth it.

Meanwhile, we have pastors in Atlanta who have their names bigger than the church's name on the sign out front, driving Bentleys and whatnot.

I went to a large evangelical church in this area growing up, and on the 25th anniversary of our pastor's coming to the church, the church leased him a new ford ranger. First new car guy had ever had.

Another reason to tax these frickers.

Problem is, in the process you hurt the other 90% of churches in America that aren't "Mega Churches", and actually do charitable work.

Pastors aren't required to live like paupers.
There are many verses in the Bible which support this, none of which are referenced in this thread.

People have mentioned the encounter that Jesus had with the rich man, but they have failed to recognize the point of that exchange.

Lets also keep in mind that there are plenty of really large churches out there that do a ton of mission and charitable work, and while they may have ministers living relatively well, we're talking 100k/year for a pretty demanding job, not Rolls and airplanes well.

No pastor needs both a full and partial bath.

Easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is a rich man to enter the kingdom of God

Can't think of a better way to advance the Kingdom of God than to install chargers for electric cars. Way to go, man!

It's as if most "pastors" don't ever read the many bible passages pertaining to vanity.

Actually Jesus didn't say much about vanity, he did preach a good deal about pulling yourself up from your bootstraps and not giving away hard earned money to the poor though.

In all sincerity, some of us have got to stop formulating the opinions that shape who we are based on an intentionally shocking and misleading headline.

The 'eye of the needle' is a great example of forming an opinion without context. Don't reject the bible or Jesus Christ because of man's poor interpretation or communication of the true message.
