Megachurch Installs EV Charging, Pastor Gets BMW i3

In a show of the way that the gradual public acceptance of electric vehicles has been accelerating, a megachurch in Colorado known as “The Resurrection Fellowship Church” recently installed a charging station in its parking lot, according to recent reports. In addition, the pastor of the Loveland, Colorado, megachurch is currently leasing a BMW i3, and considering other electric options when that lease ends, reportedly. Also worth noting — the church is planning to add a second charging station, which would bring the outlet number up to 4 (capable of charging up to 4 vehicles at once).

Pastor Wiggins (he prefers to be known simply as “Jonathan”) spoke with Green Car Reports about the intersection of the church’s mission and electric cars. He admits to being “a bit of a car nerd,” and had actually test-driven a Tesla Roadster at the single Tesla Store permitted under Colorado state law. But that high-performance sports car was both impractical and very expensive. It wasn’t until the recent crop of more affordable electric cars and lease programs arrived that the church could consider one for his use on official business. …Members of the congregation concerned about the cost of installing charging stations used by only a few vehicles were reassured that 80% of the cost of roughly $8,000 was paid through a grant from the Department of Energy’s Workplace Charging Challenge, in which Resurrection is apparently the sole church participant. As far as he knows, Wiggins was the very first pastor in Colorado to drive an electric car.

That guy should be ashamed of himself. Jesus would have slapped him upside his head.

I think I told this story before but I dated this girl while I was in college and she wanted me to go to some wedding. So, we drove to some small town maybe 30 minutes or so outside Hattiesburg and we come up to this really small church. I'm talking maybe 8 pews. Not spectacular-looking at all. Very modest. Anyways, we waited for the preacher to pull up (he was late) and I kid you not he pulled up in a brand spanking new Jaguar. I was floored. When I asked my gf's mother about it she shook her head and said, "Well, they just love their pastor."

Anyone throwing away their money towards a "megachurch" shouldn't be surprised when they find out their pastor has been blowing money on electric charging stations and electric cars.

It's as if most "pastors" don't ever read the many bible passages pertaining to vanity. Same goes for many church members. It's absurd how hypocritical most bible thumpers are.

I mean, what has this git to do with helping people or following the Great Commission?
I can see spending money on the church's infrastructure to lower electric bills or whatnot, but a charging station?

Had a girl I went to HS with, that was the daugther of a black minister in NOLA. This was mid-90s. The Reverend drove an Escalade. Apparently they also had "preacher day" each year where the flock would all bring gifts to him, gifts like 300 dollar bottles of wine, gold watches, etc.
Here's the kicker. I'd bet at least half the flock lived in, what was at the time, the Magnolia projects, the church was not far from there.
As to the OP, whatever about the charging station, but the minister can be cool and help the environment by driving an electric car a bit less than a BMW.
