I saw a video out there from the Russia/ukraine war. Think it was a Russian soldier that had maggots purposefully put into a shrapnel would that was left untreated at the front too long.

They were slowly pulling the maggots out one by one with long tweezers.

I’m sure you can search a watch the video for an opinion On whether you want that or not….

Important part is you want medical maggots. Those are very specific and you can't avoid the doctor if you want them.

Wife had a cat which had a cut we didn't see. Brought to the vet who was happy to see that maggots have kept the wound clean. Packed the wound with manuka honey to promote healing. That's it

Poorly controlled diabeetus can be an impediment to healing. Dunno if that applies to the OP.

Grandma use to tell when she was RN in west Texas in early 60s or late 50s some cowboy got a badly broken leg and used a fly swatter to scratch the itch that came with the solid cast....when they cut it off, she said everyone gagged and saw a infestation of maggots but they had eaten the dead flesh away leaving a health but gross after mass. She said it saved him from infection....

Medicinal maggots

The key to remember is don’t go to the maggots, but let the maggots come to you.

This means don’t just leave a pound of ground beef in your backyard and then go back a few days later to pick off the maggots and put them on your wound. Instead, hang around outside for several days, read a book, and let a fly land on your wound to lay some eggs.

The maggots hatched from fresh eggs will help to prevent additional infections. After the maggots have done their job and cleaned off the wound, remove as many remaining maggots with tweezers. Then frequently and generously soak your wound in hydrogen peroxide to get rid of any that are remaining.

There is an entire process for production, but it’s a real thing.

Well, he’s got a festering infection on his leg because it was itchy. I’m gonna play the odds and say it applies.
