It wasn't bad in the early 90s, either.

Watched a lot of good movies in that theater and played a lot of video games in the arcade room next to it.

My parents preferred that mall over Cortana. I spent many hours in that baseball card shop across from the McDonalds.

The theater stayed open all through the 90s IIRC. I remember going to a movie there JR/SR year of HS and there were like 5 people in the theater and some of them were smoking weed and I knew it was about over

Dude, that’s a terrible reason to wait. Go now and save that tuition money.

That old theater is a Venyu/Eatel data center now. I've been in there many times. Feels weird walking through those halls now.

Sakurity at the mall must get plenty of vacation requests during these periods.

They needed a few referees from the Foot Locker to help break it up

Looks like there’s a Mr Goldman sign right there. Shocker.

Maison Blanche had a stand alone store downtown and an anchor store at Cortana.

Bon Marche was the previous mall.

Indoor shopping malls in general are all heading down the same trajectory. The best solution so far has been outdoor malls/shopping centers, works kinda like a cover charge at the bar.

If you've got acres of free A/C in the summer and heat in the winter you get a lot of folks who don't necessarily want to spend any money just loitering. Not so much when its 90 or 40 degrees and you've got to walk outside. I think the days of major indoor malls are long over, likely won't be anymore built and the ones that still exist are mostly dying off.

The much newer outdoor mall of Louisiana annex is down to like the apple store and a main event arcade.

I saw a similar cycle play out over the course of >30 years in Jackson.

When my family moved to that area in the early 70s, Jackson Mall was the big draw for shoppers. By 1980 the area was dangerous, and now it’s the Jackson Medical Mall.

The replacement, Metrocenter, opened in the mid-70s in a better part of town. By 1990 the area was getting dangerous and people stopped going to Metrocenter.

The replacement, Northpark, opened around 1990. Now that area is dangerous, and people for the most part don’t go to Jackson.

Rankin and Madison are getting the new retail businesses instead of Hinds County. Eventually, those areas will be dangerous.

Didn’t children of the 80s grow up in malls? Y’all didn’t complain then.

Videos like these show why small, female security guards are basically useless. I understand that guards are there more as an illusion of safety and to hinder bad shite from starting. But if something actually does go down they aren't stopping two males from fighting each other.

These are teenage boys, and that female guard tried to get in the middle of it and immediately fell to the ground. And then she sort of just stood there and watched them because she couldn't really do anything.

Female Security Guards are useful in Malls maybe in places like Montana, Idaho, Iowa. Not in places like BR, Atlanta, Memphis...Need full fledge Swat to handle the trash
