Lived in McVoy.
Way better than Herget and better located. Has two entrances facing each side.
Although Herget was next to Miller

I lived in McVoy from Fall 2007 to Spring 2008. So my perspective probably isn't really relevant, but I'll give it anyway. It was a shithole then, and it's probably still a shithole now. The rooms are tiny. You definitely want to bunk the beds up to get any bit of room.
I lived in McVoy a few years earlier and agree with this. My room was divided by a wall such that you walk in to a long desk area facing the door and have to walk around to get to the bed area. Other dorms were laid out as one open room that you would configure more easily.

Lived in McVoy in 07, it was a dump. Had friends in Herget, bigger dump. I did have a room right across from the bathroom which was nice. You do have a lot of closet space if that is something important to him.

It’s still standing as of two weeks ago when I passed through.

I'm a product of the herg and loved it! The main reason it's so great is because it's so shitty. The rooms are small which is a downside at first glance, but it kinda makes everyone congregate in the lobby/patio. Some of my best friends and memories are from herget

This is some great feedback.
He wanted Annie Boyd.......we hear its already full. He doesnt get to choose until next week.
I am sure the new ones like Cedar and Cypress are gone too.

My how times have changed.
In my day (geezer alert), Herget and Miller were both all female dorms.. i lived in a dorm down the street that was torn down years ago, called Power Hall.. you dont know what a shitehole truly is unless you ever set foot in Power.. anyway, my freshman year gf lived in Herget (or “her-ZHAY”, as we called it- we were so clever) but all the really hot girls seemed to live next door in Miller.. i can remember waiting for my gf in the lobby of Herget, and sitting with me, waiting for their girlfriends to come down were a couple of basketball players named Clarence Caesar and Shaquille O’Neal.. yep, I’m talking waaay back.
Anyway, the following semester i lived in one of those dorms right down from Herget, next to Blake, i think it was McVoy but not sure.. somehow I lucked into his enormous room that i had all to myself, it was the size of like 4 regular rooms.. i pushed 3 or 4 beds together and made a California king.. still not sure how that happened, but it was fun while it lasted, till i moved off campus.

Herget. When he moves in he’ll hate you when he moves out he’ll thank you. I didn’t live there but I knew a lot of people who did. The stories are incredible.

Don’t let him live in the Pentagon like a fricking loser.

Both are coming down soon. My daughter just moved out of Herget and it was a dump but it was a place to sleep.

mcvoy sucked, small rooms, but hall bathrooms were cleaned daily

It’s a decent hike to any and every academic building (though McCoy is a bit closer). Also far from the library and every University program office (career center, academic success, etc). Parking for Herget will be slightly better. There’s a dining hall nearby. The Rec is close to both but slightly closer to Herget.
I don’t have personal experience of McVoy but I have many bad things to say about Herget.
The 2 person room was like a cinderblock wall prison cell. Assume any “activities” that Residential Life put on to be very over exaggerated and “lame” if your son is an average dude.
Most dudes that live in Herget will be rushing and pledging. If your son is going that route, he is going to be a quick walk from all of those shenanigans. If he is not going that route, (I didn’t), he’s going to hear the party animals every single night when they come back from the bars. Either way, he will be around plenty of distraction (including aforementioned sorority houses and only female exclusive form). As someone who is probably footing the bill for all of this, id go with McVoy. Slightly nicer facilities, slightly closer proximity to classes and academic support services, slightly further away from Greek life.
If your son enjoys having fun and partying but is responsible enough to keep his shite together, he’ll have a hell of a good time in Herget. If you are unsure of his ability to stay focused, avoid it.
If any opportunity to live in Pentagon (and not planning to rush) Closer to everything, stadium included.
