So it basically seems Herget is out no matter what.

My son is actually gonna be one of the managers for the football team so he may not be partying much at all.

The Pentagon may be better since he will be with football alot.

Good advice guys.

In my day (geezer alert), Herget and Miller were both all female dorms.. i lived in a dorm down the street that was torn down years ago, called Power Hall.. you dont know what a shitehole truly is unless you ever set foot in Power..

Power was great. It was considered state of the art when I lived there because it had window ACs in each room.

Lived in Power hall as well and while it was a shite hole, at least we had AC. I lived in the room all the way in the back ,by the volleyball court, and it sucked. Assholes would keep knocking on my door cause they would lock themselves out of the dorm. I eventually put tape over the lock.

I lived in Herget my freshmen year 13'-14'. Yes, its not the nicest place, but man did I have a blast. Its co-ed, all the odd floors being male, even being female. Not to mention its adjacent to Miller with its overflowing sorority presence.

Had a friend in McVoy, facility wise its about the same as Herget, maybe a little worse than H. But the company in Herget is much better. If i had to do it again, I'd go back and live in the same room on the 5th floor.... "The Filthy Fifth".

Didn't Herget get renovated in the last several years? I remember when I was there it was a dump. I lived in East Laville, I think. May have been West. Can't remember. But the rooms were enormous, particularly with bunked or lofted beds. Comparatively.

I hear you guys.. yes it was a hole, for sure— but i agree that living there made for some great memories.. matter of fact i think some of my best memories in life took place in the semester i lived there; first taste of being on your own, away front he folks- but still not quite an adult, so there was lots of room for fricking up.. and yes, the cast of characters there was unparalleled.

Yep absolutely get as close to that side of campus. If he is going to be working / volunteering in any capacity with athletics, he needs to live as close as possible to that area. For games, events, etc he will have No chance at driving from Herget and parking on that side. Your son is going to spending a lot of time in football ops building and surrounding areas, back and forth multiple times per day sometimes. Sounds awesome though. What an opportunity.

Are you for real? No wonder we have so many fat fricks in this country.

I didnt work in athletics, but i had many classes and other activities in that area, i lived across campus without a car and we *walked*. It wasn’t even really that far to get from anywhere on campus to anywhere else; the exception being CEBA (i think?)- not sure it still exists but it was the one building that was farther away than the rest.

Is the horseshoe still there? I lived in Highland in 99/00. Rooms were huge in comparison.

Absolutely for real. Walking from Herget to Tiger Stadium is over a mile. Walking a mile to work in Baton Rouge in August heat sucks. Walking a mile to work in the rain sucks. Then having to walk home. Also consider working potentially very long hours in a fast paced & high stress environment. It’s not a study job in the library. It’s a huge commitment and your personal schedule doesn’t mean shite. It is a very hard job to have & balance class.

Of course if I lived far away, I’d suck it up and deal with it. But if I had the option, I’d rather have a short walk, close proximity to go home & shower between work, class, going out, etc.

Not sure his classification, I assumed he was a freshman. ECA not open to freshmen, or at least it wasn’t last year.

According to google maps, Herget Hall to Tiger Stadium is .8 miles.. Google maps says its a 15 min walk, or a 5 min bike ride.. i think Google maps is usually conservative, so it could probably be walked faster.. or he could get a bike.

Not trying to be argumentative, do what’s right for you and your family.. it was just notable to me that when i was there (almost 30 yrs ago) , walking across campus was a no-brainer.. though i didnt have a car at the time, even my friends who had cars didnt drive to other parts of campus.. having a car was extremely valuable once i moved *off* campus, as to avoid the bus that ran back then.. but driving from one part of campus to another wasnt something we did, in general.
