The layout is actually better. In Herget, you feel like you are below deck in third class on the Titanic. It's spooky.

Herget is next to Miller which is currently the female-only dorm favored by Freshman sorority pledges according to the LSU residential life website.

I lived in McVoy from Fall 2007 to Spring 2008. So my perspective probably isn't really relevant, but I'll give it anyway. It was a shithole then, and it's probably still a shithole now. The rooms are tiny. You definitely want to bunk the beds up to get any bit of room. But all of these dorms are going to be shitholes, so it isn't like he's probably going to be better off elsewhere anyway. Living in substandard conditions is part of the experience. It builds character. And ultimately I had fun, though in no way would I want to go back to that.

My son is going to be an RA in McVoy next year. He was an RA in Pentagon this past semester. Pentagon is definitely batter than I recall it in the old days. He’d pick McVoy ahead of Herget and Pentagon. Probably Pentagon ahead of Herget.
