McDonalds has the fastest credit card machines. Period.

They can't keep their icecream machines working to save their lives, but they have the credit card machine figured out. The receipt pops out before I'm even done swiping. What's their secret?

Maybe they just store the card info and run the transaction delayed and just assume it will be approved. Massive time savings for an occasional declined card? Idk complete guess

That's exactly what I was thinking.
I mean, what are they gonna lose? Their profit margins aren't exactly slim. You figure it out of 500 cards a few transactions are decline, what's that, maybe 30 bucks?
But if you are known as the fastest well that will net you more business.

I've noticed the same. Don't eat there daily but when I have the credit card transaction takes place instantaneously.
