By the time Thomas Hodorowski made the connection between his marijuana habit and the bouts of pain and vomiting that left him incapacitated every few weeks, he had been to the emergency room dozens of times, tried anti-nausea drugs, anti-anxiety medications and antidepressants, endured an upper endoscopy procedure and two colonoscopies, seen a psychiatrist and had his appendix and gallbladder removed. The only way to get relief for the nausea and pain was to take a hot shower.

quote:

It was nearly 10 years before a doctor finally convinced him that the diagnosis was cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, a condition that causes cyclic vomiting in heavy marijuana users and can be cured by quitting marijuana. Until recently the syndrome was thought to be uncommon or even rare. But as marijuana use has increased, emergency room physicians say they have seen a steady flow of patients with the telltale symptoms, especially in states where marijuana has been decriminalised and patients are more likely to divulge their drug use to physicians.

quote:

Now a new study, based on interviews with 2,127 adult emergency room patients under 50 at Bellevue, a large public hospital in New York City, found that of the 155 patients who said they smoked marijuana at least 20 days a month, 51 heavy users said they had during the past six months experienced nausea and vomiting that were specifically relieved by hot showers.

This is a problem. Get too many weed heads together in one place during a cold winter, and they're gonna use up all the hot water. Children will die.

Then don't smoke it. Same as with alcohol. If i binge drink for 10 years i bet i'll feel like shite too.

All in all, let people do whatever they want. Who gives a shite?

I smoke everyday and it is plenty safe.

The argument sucks though because alcohol is legal and weed isn't. Alcohol is far worse for you than weed.

I don't have an argument, I'm simply passing along a report.

Very well. I will edit that out of my statement.

These studies are ridiculous though.

Like someone said above, drink and be wasted everyday for a year and see what is worse.

Your"lesser of two evils" argument is juvenile, and screams addiction.

You can't generalize that just because it doesn't give you problems it's ok for everyone. It's not that simple

Ehh I can show you my wifes step father. He sits at the table all day destroying himself with a case of Keystone. He was a sheriff deputy, college educated and nice guy. Not so much any more.

Me, I have backed off many prescription drugs, stopped drinking alcohol and am way more productive not feeling like shite on opioids.

A lot of people who are against weed thinks it makes you see spinning shite and you sink in the couch eating chips all day. Not true.

I can see people getting sick from weed too though. I'm sure there are nasty mother frickers out there that never clean their stuff. I'm sure it leads to infections and other issues.

Not addicted, can stop anytime. I have a wife, two kids, full time student 17 hours this semester, take care of my house & family, and play with my kids being a great father every day.
