Mattress prices are ridiculous

Finally decided it’s time for a new mattress and have a bad case of sticker shock. Went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and the Serta we liked was 4000$.
Anyone know of decent soft mattresses that doesn’t cost the price of an old car?

They are way too high. If you're interested, look up the Freakonomics podcast on mattress stores. Very interesting. Back to your question though. Mattresses can be very different and, imo, takes you actually laying on it to see how they feel on your body. You can try some of those order online ones like Casper and they might have a solid return policy. A good website to research with is www.sleeplikethedead.com for good information on each mattress. If in the end you decide to spend a good bit check out no interest financing. I have a Simmons Beauty Rest that I love that I got from Rooms 2go. I know people knock that place but their price was competitive and I did two years no interest. Ended up paying it off early after I took care of other debt.

Mattresses are like cars, that shite is negotiable. But yeah they are hella expensive.
Was helping a buddy of mine pick up a mattress at the store once and I turns out he didn't even look at them yet. So I'm there twiddling my thumbs while he and his wife pick out a mattress and this dude gets $2k knocked off because the plastic wrap the mattress was in had been torn open.

Negotiate... Mattresses are negotiable but you will have to find a competitor vendor. Mattress makers are smart to make a gillion models so you cant make an apples to apples comparison from store to store so you have to find similar spec'd versions.

I bought a memory foam mattress and box spring on Amazon for $600 after reading the good reviews. I’ve had it 2 years now and it’s been great.

Not sure if he is still there after the floods, but there was a guy on Florida Blvd who made his own mattresses and box springs in his shop. Bought a cheap one for the spare room, ended up being more comfortable than our expensive one.

You got a Mattress Firm or a Mattress Direct in your area. Just bought a Mattress Friday for one of the spare rooms and those guys were having sales.
And yes, prices are fricking high. Sale pricing helped tho.

They are ridiculous. I bought a Leesa a year or so ago and love it. Way cheaper than the other stuff out there.

I think our deal was a bit untypical but we ended up with the iComfort 5000 for $3100. It’s decent.

If in Baton Rouge, go to BR mattress company. There’s one on Florida and another one opening on Jefferson near hoo shoo too. He gets brand new mattresses that are slightly damaged and sells them low prices. I bought a pillow top serta California king mattress and a new California king bed from him about two years ago and total was $700. The problem with my mattress? When they pulled it off the truck, the plastic bag around the mattress got ripped and the store didn’t couldn’t take it. That was it’s only problem.

Last time I purchased a mattress, I offered 50% of asking price. We eventually settled for 65%.
