Because on a scale of 1-10, everyone else is at a 5 and you're at a 10.

I think baddesdtadvendari is taking it more seriously than I am.

Given the context of the entire situation, arguing the answer is undefinable is asinine.
It is.
It's also strictly logical assuming each symbol is a unique variable. There's 4 different symbols with three equations.
It's the super contrarian technical answer that can be mathematically supported yet rile up a good segment of the OT.
Perfect for a Friday afternoon.

Look ya'll. I don't agree with this fig much so the fact WE agree on this should be a signal.

but its true, i can make a graph that says 1 mug equals 20 and 2 mugs equals 50, there doesn't have to be a rhyme or reason.

When there are no parentheses, do you still multiply first? I am thinking you do.
I remember learning to work problems from the inside out, not left to right.
But I'm also getting old.

Do you know the fl oz of the mugs or anything at all? no, you see pictures.
Hell, if we're going to go that route, technically there are 12 different variables. We cannot determine the scale of the pictures, so there is no way to know that each hamburger is in fact the same as the other hamburger. Additionally, if the author of the problem meant for all the hamburgers to be the same, he would have written the first problem as 3 x (Hamburger) = 30.

Yes - you multiply first. The only time you go left to right with no parenthesis in this case is in a tie (like multiplication and division or subtraction and addition)

Is such a graph included with this problem that shows identical mugs

wait, i just noticed there's only 1 mug. I should read this thread it seems.

that shows identical mugs
identical is an assumption based on an apparent picture. i can zoom in on a 12 inch trout to appear to be same size as a 20 inch trout from further away

I give you an A for effort.

This is what he's referring to. You are being contentious about people thinking that you are contentious.
Imo, you are easily the most argumentative poster on the OT, and there is rarely a point of agreement. It can be about anything. Not that there's anything wrong with that I guess. We all have to get our kicks somehow.

I didn't read all 18 pages but did anyone point out to the people arguing that the two mugs are the same can no way prove that since one is in front of the other.
