quote:

A massive alligator that hunters estimate was just shy of 15 feet was found recently in Florida and officials are trying to determine just how large it was.

Lee Lightsey, owner of Outwest Farms in Okeechobee, and hunting guide, Blake Godwin, wrote on Facebook it's the largest they've ever found.

15' would be one of, if not the, biggest gators found in modern history

I fricking hate those manufactured hoist pics. The scale they try to portray isn't close to believable.

That made me go to Wikipedia.

quote:

No average lifespan for an alligator has been measured.[5] In 1937, a one-year-old specimen was brought to the Belgrade Zoo in Serbia from Germany. It is now 80 years old.[6] Although no valid records exist about its date of birth, this alligator, officially named Muja, is considered the oldest alligator living in captivity.[7]

Cool factoid.

It just puts into perspective how large the supposed world record was that was caught on Marsh Island. That alligator was supposedly 19 feet, 2 inches long. That is a solid 3.5 feet longer than this SOB, at least.

i think i saw a pic of the marsh island gator at a camp once. i saw some pic of a gator that was around that big. and it was an old pic (could be a copy of the original, but the clothing was clearly an older generation). i really wish there were pics of that thing (if the one i saw wasn't it)
