OT is figuring too much out. This is a hell of a machine when everyone gets together and uses their talents. Thus, the unsticky.

Thinking out loud here. Why turn a camera toward yourself?

What has been figured out in this thread?
Look, there is no question the police have much more info than they are revealing to the public. They are still investigating this so they are not going to release everything they know. They have to take all the information they receive then try to piece it all together and it could be to their disadvantage to release certain things.
Anyone who has been to Vegas knows that there are cameras everywhere. They are probably aware of every move he made inside the hotel other than in his room. This likely includes right outside of the hotel near the entrance.
With that said, they probably have a good idea of how he got the guns to his room. They would know if anyone else ended his room, they would know who he communicated with while inside the hotel, other than when he was in his room. Also, they probably have video of him near other areas. If anyone else was involved and he communicated with them in person, at least on the strip, there is likely video of it.

The gunman who killed 58 people here Sunday appears to have gone out to the desert to practice shooting two days before the massacre, according to a law-enforcement official familiar with the investigation. Investigators have uncovered video footage from a home-surveillance system that shows Stephen Paddock driving alone to an area on the outskirts of Mesquite, Nev. where locals go for target practice.

the desert seems like a good place to practice shooting

But the gun that was firing on the crowd was not found in the room
AR15 doesnt fire like that. Had to be a 240 Bravo

No comments on the note? I still don't understand why he'd have a camera inside facing himself, but not have it recording. All you have to do is turn it on and press record
Yes it was trajectory calculations from his 32nd floor to the crowd.
It's also come out that he had tried to purchase tracer rounds. Imagine how much more damage he could have inflicted with tracer rounds.

Tracer rounds are readily available, so no he didn't. As for damage, wouldn't have made any difference.

Apparently he did but the reports are confusing. Some reports say tracer rounds were found in the hotel room other reports say he wasn't able to purchase them.
quote:
Paddock tried to buy tracer ammunition at a gun show in the Phoenix area in recent weeks, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation tells CNN. Paddock bought other ammunition at the show, but he couldn't obtain the tracer ammunition -- bullets with a pyrotechnic charge that, when the round is fired, leaves an illuminated trace of its path -- because the vendor didn't have any to sell, the official said. Paddock did not use tracer bullets when he fired into the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival from his suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, hundreds of yards away.
quote:
Las Vegas mass murderer Stephen Paddock about a month ago bought 1,000 rounds of tracer ammo — which gives shooters greater accuracy in the dark, according to a law-enforcement official. Investigators found tracer rounds in his hotel room, along with a document naming the Mesa, Arizona, man who sold him the ammo. Paddock met the man at a Phoenix gun show, and bought the bullets from him on Sept. 9 and 10. It’s unclear if Paddock actually used the bullets, which have a pyrotechnic charge that, when the round is fired, leaves an illuminated trace of its path.

If he had used them he would have been much easier to find. Everyone would be able to see where the bullets were coming from.

I think the smoke alarms, calls to the front desk and the shot hotel security officer pretty much gave away his position early on. I didn't see videos of any police carrying around sniper rifles to take him out.

How would tracers inflict more damage? Only way I can think of is the jet fuel tanks?

It's possible he could have adjusted his firing trajectory based on where the tracer rounds were hitting. It seems unlikely he would have known where his rounds were actually hitting at night.

They have already confirmed that an "open door alarm" gave his position away. We assume it was open due to the camera wire on the room service cart.

You don’t think that would have made his shooting time shorter because his location would be known?
Posted on 10/8/17 at 10:22 am to BACONisMEATcandy
The police knew where he was very early on. They were told to stand down and wait on SWAT. He popped off rounds at police in the hallway and continued his shooting spree.
