This isn't the movies. Your average police officer on patrol doesn't have the skill, authority, geary, or training to breach a room with an armed lunatic and diffuse the entire situation.
You add in all of the misinformation and reporting and you have to remember to think in real time in crisis mode. Not in hindsight from your couch.
It says SWAT got to the building and cleared room by room and floor by floor of suspected shooter locations.
What I agree with and is crazy to me, is they found the security guard that was shot. Was he alive? He went to check on the smoke detector right? Is they have a smoke detector signaled, a security guard does to check.... Silence? Shouldn't someone have noticed that? Or did he radio he was shot?
I cannot find any information about that security guard, his condition, or his time-line. So I'll have to keep searching for that.

Okay. You go into a hotel room where a guy has an automatic rifle with your duty pistol and a Kevlar vest that isn’t stopping those bullets.

So it takes almost an hour after being at the location?
To safely breach the room? Yes

SOP for several agencies around here state in an active shooter situation you SHALL engage the suspect.

Ok. So far, I've not seen anything graphic like that. The last picture rocket posted was tough to tell.
At first I didn't want to see anything showing graphic images of dead bodies. Maybe that was denial. . Now, I sort of need some acceptance.

I woke up around 5 this morning and the lights were blinking. They were still blinking when the sun came up in Vegas

One officer with a real rifle on the ground could have done something if he knew where to look.
Hindsight is great and all but considering the time he was shooting, it's amazing the number of dead is not well into the hundreds.

So if the guy hadn't offed himself and kept shooting do you wait for swat or role in an do what you can do? If he would have continued shooting while the officers waited hundreds could have been killed

Some hosting for a bit, then took over the casino events department.

I didn't like seeing that picture posted and wish I hadn't. But in the most scary, brutal of circumstances it almost appears as if those several groups of people were trying to protect each other. Under those circumstamces to try and help others, God bless them all.

That doesn't exactly seem like the right call either.

Think about this for a second. The first 5-10 minutes are chaos. LVPD is trying to decipher what is even going on. Officer gets to the loacation but needs SWAT.
Someone needs to get the SWAT gear, get the group assembled and to the casino. Which has just shut down its elevators and evacuated its employees as well.
So now swat needs to either take the stairs, or reaccess the elevator, make contact with the LVPD on the floor, then act.
Yes, I can easily see this taking 45-60 minutes from the first shots fired.

Correct, also law enforcement also has to assume the door may be rigged causing an explosion endangering others in the hotel. This isn't a kick the door in and dive behind the couch will shooting the perp situation
